Not sure why you would expect this to be on YouTube.

If you have Netflix, it is available in the Instant section.

Usually I can find "lesser known" movies online for free I ended up getting it on DVD from the UK.. No rental services carry it here, the US BD is locked, and no Eropean release is coming anytime soon

So did John know Gruber was his son all along? Or did he just relize it at the end?

We don't know if he was close to Gruber like the others.

I am alone I suspect. Fantastic idea and story. But boy, was that acting bad, and I mean bad. And the whole gun scene was too unrealistic in every way.

I read "HD Post Production" on the end credits. Wonder if it means there is a higher quality source of video then the SD on BD?

While the PQ is average, its still acceptable, alot better than on the net. Its a beautiful film, so simple & down to Earth. None of this overdone Hollywood trash acting with unnecessary big name actors, its all about realism. I beat at the end it will leave you wanting more, MORE!!!!! A man of science or Philosophy will appreciate this.

Wow what a great movie! Had me hooked from beginning to end - and that doesn't happen often!

Wish there were more of that kind..

Not sure about anyone else but, i found in most scenes that the PQ was absolutely terrible. I mean, is it the way they shot the film?? I don't understand why some scenes are clear and crisp, then another looks like you're watching antenna tv on a tube. Was it just low budget equipment they used? Like i said before, i first saw this in the free section on Shaw video on demand so when i noticed the bad PQ on that, i probably just assumed it was cause it was on VOD and free. Shame, cause i liked the movie more the second time i watched it..minus the PQ.

I am tempted to rent it on DVD to check out the PQ on that, but its probably the same or very close. I can't believe this BD doesn't even have any options..not even subtitles

That's so disappointing. How on earth can they release a Blu-ray with such terrible pq?

I was about to order the Blu-ray since the pq is slightly better than the DVD (I compared some screenshots). Then I heard that the video & audio is out of sync towards the end of the movie.

Edit:
I just noticed that this issue is also mentioned in the Blu-ray.com review >>>

there seems to be a few lip synch issues in various shots throughout the film.

I totally missed this last year >>>

There's a kickstarter project which was successfully funded in August.

Man From Earth: The Series

by Richard Schenkman & Eric D. Wilkinson

Quote:
After much brainstorming, we came up with so many story ideas that we realized the best way to proceed would be not with a second movie, but with a series that would honor the tone, content and ideas of the original film while telling bold new tales. We're thrilled to be able to turn directly to the film's fans to help fund the pilot episode, which once again challenges long-held beliefs in a dramatic and compelling fashion.

When our pilot episode begins, it’s seven years since the events shown in “Jerome Bixby’s The Man From Earth” and John Oldman now calls himself John Young. No longer with Sandy, he’s contentedly teaching at a small college when a group of devoted students seem to stumble onto his secret. Taking no chances, John prepares to leave the school but his plans go awry and he finds himself in a crisis.

We also learn that Art Jenkins wrote a book about the fateful night when John told his friends the truth of his existence. Insisting that it was a not a novel but a true story, Art was discredited and has grown bitter and resentful, anxious to once again confront John, if he could only find him. And thanks to Art’s book, there are other people who want to know more about this mysterious “immortal.”

Soon John finds himself in the heart of a terrible conflict between what he knows to be right, and the limits of any man's humanity.

John has spent so many years… centuries… with his head kept down, keeping his profile low while teaching students and helping people when he could. But what if the changes in recent years have made that more difficult, even impossible?

Where could John go to hide? In a world where security cameras and social media track our every move, how do you remain unseen, especially when there are people looking for you? How do you continue to teach, to help… to do the things which are essential to your humanity?

How does a man who values privacy above all deal with the loss of his anonymity?

And beyond that -- what if the changes to the Earth have taken an unexpected toll? What if, after fourteen thousand years, John Oldman is... aging?

What's the Plan?

It is our intention to begin pre-production in September of this year, and start shooting in December, most likely in the Los Angeles area. Ultimately, we hope to present the finished program to the world by summer, 2015.

As for distribution, there are several possibilities. One is that we license the series to an established entertainment service like Netflix or Amazon… another is that we license the show to a cable channel like SyFy… and yet another might be a more experimental route, using an online pay-to-view service like Vimeo or Vodo… and there are many more possibilities beyond. But first, we need a pilot episode.

I received a reply from Richard Schenkman (director of Man From Earth) regarding the Blu-ray transfer. He wrote that it's a mystery to him why the Blu-ray is "looking like crap". He also wrote that he doesn't understand why Anchor Bay didn't include any of the DVD extras.

Here's a quote regarding the source material:

"the source material was NOT HD originally. That is, we shot "MFE" shortly before pro-sumer HD cameras were widely available, and at that point shooting on film -- or on a RED -- was out of our range financially. So we shot 24fps on a DVX 100 and then uprezed the project to HD for color correction and digital restoration. So while the HD master looks pretty darn good in my opinion, it's still coming from somewhat grainy SD source material."

"At the same time, we're working on our "Man from Earth: The Legacy" documentary, which will be a look back on the making of the original film, and the impact it's had over the past decade. That doc will be included as an bonus extra when "Jerome Bixby's The Man From Earth" is re-released sometime this year, in time for its tenth anniversary."
