I've decided to wait it out until a better BD, or preferably, a 4K release comes along.

You'd have thought it's only a matter of time. Fingers crossed.

Come on WB, for goodness sake, do the right thing and give us a Dolby Vision 4K release. It's killing me having to watch what is possibly my favourite film upscaled to 4K by my TV with the source as this:

It may be the original negative is in very poor shape, so costly to restore.

The 70mm print I saw at a film festival many years ago now had faded very badly and colours were way off. If that is the state of release prints, the original elements assuming Warner still have them may be in similar condition.

Next year (2023) is the 55th Anniversary and Warner tend to prefer to release new 4K UHDs on a 5 or 10 yearly anniversary. So, if it doesn't appear next year then I think we have to believe it never will.

Well you never really know, but I don't see why the original cut negatives would be in a bad state. They wouldn't have faded like some films that used certain film stocks in the fifties, & they wouldn't have been used to make many prints (the prints would have been made from dupes). I think it could be that Warner have so many films, & they just haven't got around to Eagles yet. The Blu-ray we have now looks at best like a middling DVD to me. Warner do like an anniversary release, so fingers crossed for next year.

I’d like to see the intermission included as well, which extended the action slightly but was only shown in 70mm showings in Europe.

One my favourite war films. Would love to see it on 4K UHD.

Burton and Eastwood is such strange casting but it works.

OK but as far as I know the intermission was not shown in the US nor did they have any 70mm showings.

This, Kelly’s Heroes and The Dirty Dozen would be high on my wishlist for a UHD release.

A Dirty Harry UHD boxset is at the top of my list in general, not just Eastwood.

Yes – same. Would be tricky to say which of the three I like most.

Where Eagles Dare and Kelly's Heroes by a mile. Dirty Dozen is OK but its nowhere near as much as fun as the first two.

Imagining how nice WED will look in 4k HDR if done right.

Kino have been on a good roll with Clint Eastwood films - maybe they will pick it up.

OMG, semi-exciting news......from the Digital Bits

Quote:
While we’re talking Warner, Andrew Carter of @Clint_Movies on Twitter has revealed that director Clint Eastwood has approved new 4K remasters of all of the Dirty Harry movies, as well as Where Eagles Dare, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, and Kelly’s Heroes. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot is already announced by Kino Lorber Studio Classics for release sometime in 2023. It’s still TBD as to when the others might arrive on Ultra HD, particularly the Dirty Harry films (which would be from Warner, though they aren’t currently on the 4K slate for 2023). Thanks to Bits reader Molson Blue for the heads-up.

Omg please let this be Warner Archive and include the 70mm presentation with intermission.
This film deserves a ton of extras and UHD but I’ll settle for a perfected WAC disc.
