no of course youtube trailers are not a good comparison, but nonetheless reports are that it looks great in 3d and poor in 2d.

Yeah, it was meant for 3D so I do get what you are saying. I remain hopeful though, since CGI usually looks spectacular!

I've been waiting for a Blu-Ray release of the Abyss since I first bought my player. It is easily one of my favorite movies (the Director's Cut, of course), but all I have for it is a non-anamorphic DVD copy, which looks awful on my TV. I'm really surprised there hasn't been one yet. I can't imagine what the studio is waiting for.

At SDCC Cameron mentioned they were converting Titanic to 3D, so I'd imagine we won't see it on Blu-Ray until that version has played in theaters.

I'm wondering if the Sigourney Avatar will grab a male character by his shirt collars and shove him against the floor or the wall and scream at him. It's in almost every Cameron movie.

Terminator -- "Move it, Reese!"
Aliens -- "These people are dead, Burke!"
Abyss -- (Lindsay doesn't shove anyone against the wall, but that's only because Bud stops her)
Terminator 2 -- Sarah grabs Dr. Silverman by the shirt collars and screams "You're all dead!"
Titanic -- "I'm through being polite, G-dammit!"

Waiting for the shirt collar moment in Avatar.

Note that an earlier version of the Avatar story is being released on Blu-ray next week - "The New World"

Remember that Avatar is just a retelling of "Pocahantas"...

True Lies would be nice on Blu, actually a little surprised that one hasn't been released yet.

THE BRIDGE IS OOOOUUUUUUUT!

I'm also hoping for either True Lies or The Abyss.

Yeah, we would've heard already if they will be released in December. I wonder why Fox is not taking this marketing opportunity.

Default Avatar releases Earth Day| April 22, 2010

Avatar Blu-ray

I figured that I would start a thread about the upcoming James Cameron film Avatar.

As most of you I am sure know, it will soon be released in theatres.

My question to post to the forum - given the 3-D format of this film, how do you think this will change Blu-Ray?

I'm not sure if its necessarily gonna change blu-ray but I think we won't be seeing a release until the Blu-ray 3D format stuff get's released. Then it will probably be one of the first ones out.

it is too soon to tell, lets see how it does in theaters. I want it to do well and anxiously waiting for it but it could end up like Beowulf...

I liked Beowulf a lot better in IMAX 3D than normal 2d

Really?? What makes it so awesome??? It looks kinda lame to me. Whats up with the blue people??? I mean does anyone know what the actual story is about?? I think people think its so awesome because its a Cameron movie. Theres no way this would get this much hype if it was another director.

You know I sorta feel the same way.
The trailer is exceptionally well edited and has great music, but I thought the 3D wasnt much of an improvement on say Star Wars. When the Avatar wakes up from the table the expression on his face looks fake as do all of the facial expressions.

And FYI the story is just an outer space retelling of the Pocahantas story.

I just think the CGI is out of this world. By far the best to date. It seems like a group of advanced military agents get mutated into some super species of animal/alien. There is obviously some big battle. Who knows if the story will end up being good, but its worth a movie ticket for me

It won't change the format in the slightest. It's just a movie, people. Not some earth-shattering, format changing event.

You should pick up the original post and make it James Cameron Avatar, I thought this was about Last Airbender.

I just hope they release a ltd IMAX version on Blu-Ray in addition to the cinemascope version.

I don't agree with that, seeing that "the last airbender" is simply called "the last airbender" and "avatar" is "avatar" it doesn't seem there should be too much confusion.
