If this film doesn't shame your naked body in front of the bathroom mirror into picking up a weight, you are hopeless.

One of the best movies on blu, I loved it in the theater and love it on blu. Its one of my most watched movies.
If you like lots of action and blood then you won't be disappointed.
Lots of grain in the movie so if you like that you will love it.
I love grain so this movie is heaven.

Frank Miller never claimed to be a realist. He's a graphic novel artist/writer. 300 is Miller's interpretation of the Battle of Thermopylae, just as it has been done several times before in film. Every generation has their own verison of the telling of the 300. This one is ours.

I'm sorry if the muscular men in "thongs" offend you, but just be grateful that they didn't do it 100% historical. Otherwise, you'd be watching muscular men with their slongs hanging out. (Spartan warriors fought completely nude. The statue of King Leondis in present day Sparta is nude, except for his helmet.)

The Leonidas statue in present day Sparta isn't nude.

The monument in Thermopylae does have the naked Leonidas though.

are the people that dislike it women? or just like dramas or something? anyways, this movie is almost everything you would ask for in an action movie. a guy/team of people (who happen to be badass and the best warriors of there time) get cornered and have no choice but to fight or there land will be taken over by some creepy guy who might be transexual and hangs out with goats lol. but seriously it's a very good action flick, the battle scenes are amazing and Leonidas is awesome in this. i reccomend it.

Actually, they fought in heavy armor in battle. Most Greek statues are nude for whatever reason

it's entertaining but extremely testosterone driven and historically inaccurate. The epitomy of a teenage boy must-buy (which isn't always a bad thing).

The movie has got some pretty cool action scenes. And I am not a huge fan off the amount of grain it has. But they make it look as if there is only 12 guys doing all the killing and fighting, out of 10 I give it a 5. The queen is hot though!

Natural film grain is good. Artificial film grain can be done poorly.

When I first grabbed my blurray player, this was one of the first movies I picked up, even though I already own it on DVD.

It was made like Sin City, where they used Frank Miller's comic as the story boards, and then shot everything on green screen to recreate the same look and feel. Every frame looks like a painting.

It's a steal at that price, and I think you should have it in your collection. It'll be one of those discs that make your bluray player worth having.

To all the people claiming that this movie is historically innaccurate or that it is "offensive" to Persians:

This movie is more myth that history. It is the battle of Thermopylae as though it were written by Homer rather than Herodotus. The movie is told as a story by a Spartan to rally other Spartans and Greeks to fight Xerxes (who illegally invaded Greece). So, of course, the Persians appears as monsters in all of their decadence. The Spartans want to demonize their enemies in order to rally support to protect their homeland.

The Spartans, historically, wore heavy armor. They were walking tanks essentially. However, look at Greek art. What do their heroes have in common? No armor! Spartans fought in tight phalanxes. How come Leonidas and other Spartans fight as individuals in this movie? Ever read the Illiad? Yup, just like Achillies, Diomedes, Hector, and other heroes, they kill others and eminate bad-assness.

The Immortals also baffled the Greeks. How can there be warriors who cannot die? So, it makes sense that they appeared as Demons to the Spartans instead of men who just happened to be replaced when they die to give the illusion of an immortal army. That goes for the rest of the Persian army. They brought troops from all reaches of their Empire (go imperialism!) to fight in Greece, so it makes sense that there were troops that the Spartans had never seen before, and would appear as monsterous or magical to their eyes.

The movie makes sense when viewed as mythology. It is based on history (the Persians invading Greece and the battle of Thermopylae), but has a mythological feel to it. Also remember, that this was adapted from a graphic novel.

By the way, "offensive to Persians". Um, they invaded Greece to enslave them and wipe them off the face of the map historically. They were the "evil empire" here

this is a great way to look @ this movie!!!

there is some historical inaccurateness obviously, but i found it interesting that there is some truth to the comment "well then we'll fight in the shade" that it was actually said by a spartan fighter.

can't remember where i saw/read it but i guess there is some documentation or record of it.

It was Dienekes (sp?) who was quoted as saying that line by Herodotus. I love that line

I'm secure enough in my man hood to say that a bunch of sweaty, hot, oiled up men are awesome! Then again I bodybuild and I have respect that went into creating those builds. Another thing that this movie established is having the leading man in really good condition ie. Death race Jason Statham. I think it helps add to the realism in movies.
