This movie was one of the first DVDs I owned-- along with Blade from New Line and something else I'm forgetting at the moment. It's a good guilty pleasure flick with sci fi and some hot women, so as long as the picture doesn't suck I'm excited to get it.

I really disliked this movie. Other than character names, this movie had little in common with the series.
Reportedly, the grownup Billy Mumy (of Babylon 5 fame) was approached to play his older self in the movie, but the producers turned him down because he still looked too good.
Also, Jonathan Harris was supposed to play Gary Oldman's senior, but said "I don't play bit parts..."

I'll have you know that "Lost In Space" the movie was supposed to be a Trilogy. I heard this news when the film came out.

This was one of the first DVD's I bought. Saw it in Theatres with my dad and brother. Movie was ok, I got bored tho.

Hey, don't be shocked when I would have mentioned Lacey Chabert. She would have been 15 or 16 at the time of shooting. She's 27 now. I was about 24 at the time this film came out, so Heather at 4 years older than me at the time, (and still is), wasn't on my radar at the time. What can I say?

I'd have tapped Heather Graham when I was five years old.

I never really understood all the hate towards this movie. I've seen it several times over the years, and I still enjoy it a great deal. It has comedy, action, and character all in the mix, and none of it really seems ill-fitting or distracting (at least, not to me). I remember being very disappointed that a sequel was never made, which is a shame because the story could've gone almost anywhere with that "gravity well" ending. On the whole, I'd give it a solid 7/10, and picking it up on Blu will be more than likely for me.

The movie was a little cheezy, but still entertaining. The opening scene (Space battle with Matt LeBlanc..Joey from "Friends") was reference quality 5.1 sound at the time...should sound even better in uncompressed DTS-HD (or Dolby TrueHD)!

Well, do what WE did in the theaters, and watch it in very recent proximity with "Batman & Robin", to get a really good specific idea of why Akiva Goldsman shouldn't do any more pop-cult franchise movies.

The endless (and bafflingly ill-used) pimping of Iconic Cult Catchphrases and actor cameos...
The occsionally condescending quasi-kitsch attempt at tongue-in-cheek, as a "safety" backup plan...
The one-liners...The endless, endless one-liners...
The always cheery and uplifting
[Show spoiler]"Whew, thanks to alternate time-travel, our heroes DIDN'T all die in a fiery crash after all!"
plot device...

Had the two movies been two years apart, we might never have suspected a thing, and Goldsman might still be inflicting his damage upon us in blessed incognito--
But no, we got Goldsman's two most legendarily studio-deal horrendous scripts of the 90's six months apart, and there was no longer any mistaking that we had a NAME to our national pain--Just think, there used to be a time when we blamed only Joel Schumacher for B&R...

I love LOST IN SPACE and was disappointed in the move because of what it could have been.

For those of you who like/love CLASSIC Lost in Space check out this CG video that I just finished:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dc_oN9OP0x0

This is Season 4 - Episode 1 THE REVENGE OF MAJOR WEST. Enjoy.

I might pick up the blu-ray of LIS because of MIMI ROGERS too. But frankly I would prefer to see clean TV show transfers to Blu.

I will agree with a few of you. I thought it was great cheesy sci-fi flick. It definatly was fun to watch on a Saturday afternoon.

Me too. It is an ok, fun, escape... movie. But not worth my money to upgrade to Blu.

I'm looking forward to picking this up this Tuesday, but I'm disappointed there isn't an official review for it up yet.

I agree! Good sci fi film. I'd give it 8.5/10. I think it's kind of emotional even with William Hurt and his son.

And Gary Oldman as the bad guy has some great lines.

Red face Lost in translation...?

I grew up with Lost in Space and loved it - the TV series, that is. I was surprised at the movie version of Lost in Space but enjoyed it for what it was realizing how difficult it would be upscaling a television series to a major motion picture - there was bound to be something lost in the transfer. After that I, too, was looking for a sequel which never happened. Call it unfinished business if you want to but the movie plays like we expect that there is going to be more to follow.

I enjoyed Lost in Space (Television Series) as light entertainment - it never took itself too seriously. Its major competition on television at the time was Star Trek - completely different altogether. Funny how one movie franchise takes off and another fails. Maybe one day, real soon, we may see another reboot for Lost in Space? Who knows.... ??
