I have over 100 BD's. About 20 HD-DVD. And over 3000 DVD'S. Sooo....long way to go on the High Def front, I would say.

I just love movies.

(And in my collection are about 75 VHS tapes, and about 45 BETAS! None of the VHS is out yet on Disc. Not the same for the BETAS. )

I am at 66 Blu Rays. I like to collect and watch movies. I figure I will be close to 100 by Christmas with all the new releases coming + some existing titles I am going to be getting.

when i rent i feel like i'm throwing money away. I buy, if i dislike, i sell and am out about the same (by selling it used at a loss) as if I rented. Plus I get them at 5% over cost, so I never pay full retail.

I enjoy the hobby and since i don't drink, gamble or smoke...i guess I am entitled to one vice.

The way I look at it, if I paid for tickets for me and the wife, popcorn, sodas, I am at or over $30 bucks for a movie. And then you have to deal with loud obnoxious people, films with tears, reels that die off....and sometimes sound that is worse then a simple stereo. With my eight foot screen, and superb sound, I will more often then not, just wait for the film to come out on disc. And if I don't like the movie, I can give it away, and not really be out any more money if I did not like the movie in the theatre.

I have 85+ and, when it comes to your original question, I'm a combination buyer. Obviously my main goal is buying to collect. However, if there is something that I have not seen and want to watch it, I'll drop the $ to purchase it. I do this mainly because I hate renting, the selection is horrid for renting in my town, and renting from online sites just doesn't cut it for me. When I want to watch a movie I watch one. I can't decide 2 weeks in advance that I'm going to want to see a certain movie. When I want to see it, I get it!

Default Trying not to buy as many Blu Ray Disks

I don't know if I should posting this or not because this is a post for people who have 50 + Blu Rays and I only have 1 but here it goes anyway. I have close to 200 DVD's I do not watch a lot of them regularly I would say I only watch 50 or so regularly. I will TRY and the key word is try not to buy as many Blu Rays. The day Transformers is coming out on HD DVD only, I will pick up the SD DVD version of Transformer (damn you Paramount, greedy bastards, but I digress) I will also pick up Blus of Black Hawk Down and Casino Royal.

Has anyone read Ian Flemings Casino Royal, it was published in '53 I thought the book was good. Had no where near the action but the ending of the book was far supirior I thought.

If we can bag Warner as an excusive that will be way bigger than HD DVD getting Paramount. Because Blu Ray would get the Lord of the Rings and Matrix Trilogy exlusive and any up coming Batman movies. I think Warner might go exclusivly Blu considering the sale numbers for 300.

do you buy the movies to collect them?
Or do you really just love movies that much?

I watch alot of movies and some seem worth 20 or more dollars
But there is also a ton of crap movies around that I wouldn't buy no matter how crystral clear it looks.

Anyway, just a question.
I have around 100 Blu-Ray's and over 1000 standard dvd's. I collect movies, but only ones that I like, enjoy, and I know I will watch again and again. I only buy Blu-Ray's that take advantage of the technology (cinematography, action, explosions, etc.) I don't see a need to duplicate a title i have on Blu just for the sake of doing it, nor do I see the need for something like Hitch on Blu-Ray, why? No big action scenes...no stellar camera work. I love Blu-Ray and will always be a supporter, but you have to be frugal when it comes to dropping $30 on a movie.

I only buy the movies that I like. I couldn't care less whether anybody else likes it or not.

I usually buy them if they are an action, war, cartoon, or concerts. I do not buy Dramas or Comedy's since in my eyes you dont need that in HD that's just me though. It's like when TMNT came out my local blockbuster got in Disturbia & Are We Done Yet on Blu Ray but no TMNT. I said to them oh let's get a comedy & drama on Blu Ray but no Action that makes alot of sense ha ha ha. Some I dont know if I will like I will rent before I buy them. If I like them enough then I will pick them up. There have been some I've been glad I rented some have been absolutely horrible like Terminator 1 so grainy it looked like crap, Tomb Raider, Mystery Men on HD, G.I. Jane, Total Recall, a bunch other one's that I cant think of now. Then there's the one's that have looked awesome that I picked up after I rented. Eagles farewell 1 Tour (HD) has to be my fav concert on both formats!! I'm very happy to have both since there are movies on both that I like. As you can tell I'm even right now.
That's my take!!
Mischa.

Really there's only a dozen movies out right now that I would consider buying and probably only a handful that I will. As for future releases, again another dozen coming out before the end of the year that I REALLY want but due to budget constraints will probably not be able to get more than half of those.
