DVDEmpire.com shows a weekly total of 60+% blu 29% HDDVD sales for the week thus far. And this is the week that was to make a difference?

BTW, I asked the saleswoman at Circuit City, Santa Monica CA which she sold more of, and without hesitation and with a "why would you even ask" attitude, she said "oh, Blu-ray".

And of course the HD DVD guys at Hidefdigest.com think that Amazon is THE sales indicator and the HD DVD is going to blow Blu-ray away this week. Well, Amazon is only one retailer, they have no idea of how many titles are actually being sold and HD DVD is only ahead by a small margin. I really will be surprised if HD DVD pulls up even with Blu-ray this week. I think they are going to be the ones who will be surprised.

This does not mean much at all. The Amazon sale going on right now is what is causing this. The Blu-ray sale has 105 items for buy 2 get 1 free. The HD-DVD sale has 55 items at buy 2 get 1 free.

HD-DVD owners have far fewer titles to choose from within this Amazon sale therefore those 55 titles are going to sell more copies to those that are taking advantage of the sale, thus boosting that titles individual sales number even higher. A lot of people end up buying the same bundles as their neighbor since they don't have as good a selection as the Blu-ray sale.

Blu-ray owners have many more titles to choose from in this sale - 105 total. Almost 2 to 1 over HD-DVD. Hmmm, very interesting. Therefore, sales of each title are not going to be as artificially inflated because we have more options to choose from.

So, to sum it up, the actual sales rank of the Blu titles don't get as much of a boost as the HD-DVD titles because Blu-ray owners have more choices. You follow?

Muahahahaha!

My laughter is in no way an indication of my support of such behavior.

Behind the Blu-rays?! When that row of Blu-ray discs sells out tomorrow that HD-DVD will be in plain view and have a row all to itself...for years!

I went to Wallyworld and they had zero HD-DVD's of BoG and BD so i guess its a win-win situation. They did happen to have a mountain of BoG on DVD though

Blu-ray hasn't always been on top, this year, on eproductwars.com, but Blu-ray has always been on top this year in the REAL numbers (Neilsen Videoscan).

HD-DVD is always stronger, relative, on Amazon, simply because Blu-ray has a stronger highstreet presence.

Blu-ray is still winning.

They have 100 titles all ranked over #699

HD DVD has 100 titles but they rank all the way down to #4000+

The 100Th ranked BD titles is beating the 65th ranked HD DVD title.

Yup. Just like at my local WalMart, where a lot of BD titles are sold out while HD-DVD's sit pretty and all organized. One could almost hear crickets while checking out the HD-DVD rack, I tell ya.

Does anyone know what the list is for the 105 BD's regarding this sale? I thought it was only about 40 titles. But over a hundred?!?

Thanks

Which shows you the power of the forums. HD DVD has managed to keep its present position through online forum users buying online.

But, for a format the cries it is the choice of the masses, its proponents are ignorant or actual disdainful of where the masses shop (B&M) and rent (B&M).

If I'm right, the general adoption will go Blu-ray's way due to simple mind-share.

The reason there is such a big surge is that people are buying combos during this sale, look at the top ten, nearly all of them are combos.
