Who goes to Best Buy anyway? I can't speak for everyone else, but at my local Best Buy all the Blu-rays/HD DVD's are in the $30-$40 range which is ridiculous. My local Fry's Electronics has them all in the proper $20-$30 range.

I'm sure the HD DVD version will eventually sale out.
The place that I typically buy my new release DVDs when I have to had at least a couple hundred copies of Blades DVD left when I visited there in the afternoon. The place was busy and it look like it was selling well at all. With some of the bigger movies, you have to get there within hours of them opening or the several hundred copies they have will be gone, especially when they sell them at $12.99. On the other hand, they had no copies of Blades on HD DVD (or Blu, as I really don't believe any got out), not even a space for it, same with HEROS. They didn't bother to carry any. Hmmmmm....

FYI Heroes is doing very well on Amazon and in BM stores sold out at my BB CC, Blades on the other hand is fully stocked and not selling very well.

Even as an HD DVD supporter, I wouldn't buy Blades of Glory if it was the last HD DVD ever to be manufactured. I like Will Ferrell and all, but my god that movie looks ass stupid. This is why I don't understand why all you blu guys are so pissed that you're not going to get it! Heroes on the other hand... Why buy it for $105 (incl tax) at Best Buy when you can get it for $60+ shipping online?

It's just too obvious.

I have to ask this and I don't mean this in a rude way or anything but: Why would a self professed HD-DVD supporter even bother to come on an "All Blu-Ray only" forum like this one?

Just thought that was interesting.

By the way, I picked up 3 more Blu's today (2 Warner titles and 1 Disney).

Go Blu!
I was amused when I went into my Best Buy yesterday afternoon. All the signage still listed the Blu-ray release. I grabbed their head video guy there and asked him where it was since I came in specifically to buy it and they were advertising it. He looked around with me since there are a few places BD movies can be found (standalone at the entry for Blades of Glory, BD section, another standalone multiproduct section by customer service and some in the PS3 games section) but we couldn't find any. He did say that he thought they were all sold out of it "which is normal for new blu-ray releases" and mentioned someone else couldn't find it earlier either.

So I picked up Full Metal Jacket. I didn't expect to find BoG but I was curious what was there and who would say what when asked.

1st. Why not? Just because I support HD DVD doesn't mean I don't want to learn about the competition. I'm not a fanboy and I'm not a troll. I've said it many times. If blu-ray wins, I'll buy a blu-ray player.

2nd. The speed in which this site gets updated regarding news both good and bad for BD is astounding. AVS is blocked at work so this site is the only place I have available to me to keep tabs on stuff! My only other option is formatwarcentral.com, but they are slow to update and don't have a forum.

I'll throw in too, that I don't think the HD-DVD version of Heroes is selling well at all in the retail stores. Have places that ordered limited copies of them (place I reserved my copy ordered ONE HD-DVD version, it didn't sell). Not many places here seemed eager to order a box set of HD-DVD.

I think it will be like any other HD (Blu or HD-DVD) Box set. Planet Earth sat around for a while until word got out about its quality. I think until reviews are in on HOW it is superior (which, I've even seen 720p versions of Heroes, it's not that superior, even if it were on Blu-Ray) it won't sell.

If people can be convinced there is a significant benefit to going with an HD version, then they'll flock to it. This applies to ANY box set. I love 24, but would 24 in Blu-Ray be that much better than the standard DVD? I mean, most TV shows do not showcase killer graphics (animated does benefit from HD), but showcase a good storyline.

This is what I feel kills the HD box sets initially. Over time, the benefits are known and it gets picked up.

We have an utterly terrible precedent of forumers preceding you that stated more or less the exact same things. Near 100 percent failure rate.

If you end up truly meaning this and it works out then I will congratulate you on being an incredibly rare exception.

You'll find I just like to argue, but in the end does it really matter that much? Not really. It's friggen dvd player, no sense getting yourself all stressed out about it, right?

Don't get me wrong, there's been quite a few threads here that I have had to bite my tongue on, simply because I know I'm a sheep in a pack of wolves here, so why start any drama? I run a VW website, and I know I get awfully ticked off when an arch nemesis honda owner shows up and starts crapping on threads, so I would never do the same on a different forum. Same story, different hobby.

Honestly, the only thing keeping me away from BD right now is cost. Not so much that I can't afford it, but my wife would kick me in the mansack if I spent $500 on a DVD player!! lol I'm not a gamer, so a PS3 would be a waste and the other players are just too much money. Also (I was accused of being a troll for this), I don't like Sony products, so that leaves me with Samsung, Panasonic, and the hybrid players which are rediculous expensive. With that said, if blu-ray does end up a clear winner and I can buy a BD player for $200 or less, I'll do it.
