not sure how i feel about this. seems to be an ethical quandry. to me, if i was to watch a movie that i would have paid to see, i would consider it stealing.
i have a good friend in a band (thrice.net)and as far as album sales go, they don't do so well because the majority of their fans fileshare and therefore, they dont get the props they're due. but i do know that a majority of bands make their money on tour and through the sale of merchandise. its not the album sales that get em money. albums are merely promotional. but as a matter of conscience...i have put on myself a few conditions:

if i like the band (and now movie) - if its something i enjoy, i will give them money through a purchase

on the flipside, if its something i never would have gone to the theater to see (or bought from i-tunes or the cd store), i'll take the freebee. if i like it THEN i'll buy it. so i guess filesharing, to me, is reaching out to the fence sitting demographic (such as myself) to encourage the 'entertained' to support the artist through financial compensation. and that seems fair. everything else...is....well...stealing.

for example: halloween. wouldn't have seen it in the theater. probably wouldn't have rented it either. so i'll be watching that. maybe even balls of fury (looks utterly ridiculous and a waste of my time, but i'll give it a go). if i like either or, i will purchase the dvd. but i'm 95% sure i won't be doing that as those movies don't really appeal to me.

THRICE OWNS. The best song they have ever made is paper tigers.
