I'm curious how this site and others like it get around those pesky distribution laws.

Ok call me crazy, but can you get in trouble for watching these movies. I mean it seems illegal to me. However, i did take a little peak at halloween.

While (I would think) the site could be held responsible for freely distributing those movies, I doubt that somebody who was streaming from that site would get in any trouble. It would be the site that holds liability. Unless you decide to somehow capture the streaming video & then share it via P2P...then they could definitely get ya!

But I'm not a lawyer, so don't take my word for it. Maybe it's got something to do with the fact that it is streaming. If anyone DOES know, please enlighten us.

Well I looked through their forums and someone asked if they could get in trouble. The website hosts response was this "We do not host the movies on our servers it is only the file hosting sites like dialymotion and veoh that host the movies. You will not get in trouble for using the site too."

So I guess it is ok to view..???

I'll tell you what. Leave that site up running movies for a week straight, then you let me know if anything bad happened to you.

Seriously when I was previewing a little of the new Halloween I felt like I was waiting for the ring and then something bad was going to happen

Well that helps a little that your bud is not locked up or paying a quatrodruplebillion dollars in fines. Did anyone hear a few months ago about that little boy that was downloading movies and they charged his grandfather, who didn't even know what the boy was doing. Since it wasn't his direct fault they were only looking for $50,000 (wow uber discount). The grandfather said no, and the last I heard he is headed to court for a fine of $250,000.

I'd rather see it in the theater or wait for blu-ray. Don't care for standard def. displayed in a little box.

The main difference I can see is that with these sites, you're not technically downloading anything. It just streams. Again, like I've said before I am no lawyer so I really don't know.

And no, he's not locked up or being fined for it....so far at least. He has his own place & works in insurance, so no worries about his grandpa or anything like that. We're adults so if he gets in trouble for his actions, it's all on him.
