Most people here perhaps. But most average people (in my opinion) go to the store and just pick the model that looks good and that they can afford.

Currently, Wal-mart is the largest seller of HDTVs, and VISIO is #1 selling flat panel HDTV of all brands. Does that sound like people are doing a lot of research, or that people are just looking for inexpensive TVs?

Check my sig. The A2 is not a joy to use. In terms of interface/features the HD-A2 is a step down even from Toshiba's cheapest upscaling DVD players.
The only thing I have to compare my A2 to is my PS3. In my opinion, the PS3 is the hands down winner in just about every way - but it also cost much more. Oh, and I dislike the bluetooth remote. And because of some of the issues you pointed out with the A2, I will generally get the BR version of a movie when available.

However - I just don't think 1080i or p will make much of a difference to the average consumer - especially when there will be no benefit on their TVs (mostly likely 720p). I am not arguing that 1080i is just as good as 1080p, or that consumers should not be concerned about it - I just don't think most consumer are. But that is just my opinion.

gator it comes down to the "kick in the ass" moment...when one or two year down the road they do get a new tv that is 1080p and they have this shitty player....

My arse (joking with you of course) My father just bought a 61 Samsung DLP, my Dad is not a tech guy but he is all about the picture on the TV and When he saw a 1080p set he waited until he could afford one. After which he looked at HD-DVD (hey no ones perfect) and when he seen 1080i and seen the 1080p on the blu-ray's he knew which one he wanted. People do ask and want to know, and most want the most out of what they buy.

If any of you guys live in South Cali, mainly in the South Bay area around Torrance, the CC In PV where my brother works the manager is extremely generous! I have a family member that got a brand new Sharp Aquos 1080P 48" I believe for $700 and I got a 7.1 system that was priced around $1000 or more I don't remember the brand for only $170 because the manager wanted to get rid of it.

I know what you are saying, but I still believe that the majority still choose price over resolution.

However, it might not be important what the average consumers choose, since the consumer who mostly concerned with price and picking up a VISIO at Wal-mart probably won't be buying into either HD format. I would guess that it is the people that are looking at 1080p TVs and doing their research that would be most interested in moving to HD movies - so in other words, you may just have a point.
