I do wonder how this will fit with The Avengers. Captain America's sequel (which obviously isn't greenlit) will essentially be a midquel that takes place somewhere within the first film since the writers left the plot loose enough to suggest more 40s adventures (I'm assuming the first film will have some sort of montage in the middle).

In the case of Thor, one of the first things I thought of when the film ended was, "Wait...how are they going to handle the Thor/Jane dynamic if Thor comes to Earth in The Avengers and Natalie Portman isn't coming back till Thor 2?" A friend of mine suggested that maybe Thor doesn't actually come to Earth but instead plays his part from Asgard. Otherwise, it would feel like a cheat for him to find a way to return and not immediately want to go find Jane. However, they could always handle that via dialogue where Thor references finding her off screen, and in Thor 2, we actually get to see their reunion (aka an Avengers midquel). Let's see what happens.

No he does, but in the vein of Fast and Furious and Fast Five, they will take place before the Avengers and will make 10 Thor movies that all take place before the Avengers happened.

count me in, loved the first one. sorry to see Brannagh go but as long as they get someone just as talented im sure it will be great. probably wont happen but it would be cool to see Matthew Vaughn take over since he was originally going to make the first one at some point.

i remember reading something that said Thor
[Show spoiler]is in Asgard until about halfway through the movie (which could just be a rumor) and the Avengers are based in NYC so he may not have a chance to go see Jane during The Avengers
.

I'm glad they're making a 2nd Thor, but one thing. It's coming in two years. Hopefully they won't rush this like they did with "Iron Man 2". Too bad Kenneth Branagh isn't directing it. Oh well, 2013 will be a good year: IM3 and Thor 2. I'm already excited.

Though to be honest, I'd be doing cartwheels in my John Turturro like Man-Thong
[Show spoiler]( Sorry for that Visual folks! )
if both Jon Favreau AND Kenneth Branagh were back, esp. Kenneth B. for THOR 2.

Exactly. I mean, how much MORE might he have been asking for to return? Maybe he pulled a Ving Rhames (MI: 4) & shot for the moon & got shot down (literally)

It's TWO Years away. I mean, Post-Production takes what, 6-10 months on these (Mostly due to lengthy CGI rendering, usually), so they have Plenty of time to get a script done & start shooting ("Possibly") later this year, more likely, early in 2012. If it takes 4-6 months to film, that still gives them at Least 9-12 months to edit, do post-production, etc.

With it being a July release, they'll likely be looking to start shooting around April or early May.

That should be a fair amount of time if they have already been brainstorming where the sequel will go. I think with Iron Man 2, not everyone involved was prepared for a sequel deadline so fast. Between the first and second Iron Man movies, John Favreau was in four released films. Busy guy. If they get a new director pretty quickly and have writers start up right away, there should be no rush.

I definitely like having two Marvel movies in one summer. Hopefully that will be a more common occurrence.

Will 2013 mark the final outing for this batch of superheroes on the big screen? Over the next couple of years we'll have had Spider-man, Batman, Wolverine and Superman.

I love a good super hero film, but the genre can't last forever. Plus they will be up against a host of other films such as the Hobbit, the first of the TinTin series, possibly the next Avatar film, not too mention the next Bond release!! It's probably a good job Harry Potter is about to conclude, there would be no release space for another one

I've a feeling we'll see a few of these franchises rested and mainstream audiences might begin to tire of annual super hero releases.

Avatar, Tintin and The Hobbit will be for Winter seasons. Most likely the SH films will be for Summer, so if you mean box office then SH films are here to stay.
