I wasn't sure if an item for Japan deserved its own thread and didn't find a recent appropriate one, so I figured I would put it here. It is related to this one since it is about Blu-ray probably winning pretty much the whole year in Japan too. This isn't Nielsen, but 300 just came out in Japan and I just checked Amazon over there (www.amazon.co.jp) for the rankings on each format. The current rankings for 300 are:

Blu-ray: 67
HD DVD: 1051

We should make sure we pool togeather to make sure Blu Ray clearly wins the week transformers is released. I think if they can show a full years worth of winning that will be a great selling point to studios.

To bad WB, Universal and paramount don't care???????

This stupid division needs to go away.

BD is the way to go, Its sad that we have no end in sight because of stupid studios.

Agree 100%. If BR wins the week of October 16 the effect will be resounding...near deafening.

Seeing it like this makes a difference I think. Otherwise it just looks like numbers. People are going to see a graphical representation of this which is just great!

This information needs to be made known!

hey darin, you want to check the whole amazon japan sales?? shocking. top ten is blu-ray (although a spot is occupied by two, one BD, one DVD), while there are several DVD in top 20. NO HD DVD.

I'm not really certain these numbers mean anything. Do you they really indicate that consumers prefer Blu-Ray or just that consumers prefer the movies available on Blu-Ray? For example, if POTC 1 & 2 equalled all of HD-DVD's sales for a week, what does that really say? To me, not much. Or if Oct 16th is dominated by Transformers, what does it prove?

But when I see that 300 on BR is beating 300 on HD-DVD 2:1 that indicates a clear preference for Blu. I think it would be more telling to take the Warner and Paramount titles that are available on both formats and compare their sales for the year and see if it really bears out the 2:1 margin. There should be very little crossover from anyone who has gone format neutral.

Any hope for a Paramount/Warner Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD chart?

It takes 12 HD DVD Warner titles to equal the sales of 5 Blu-ray titles.

have you ever seen american beauty? one of the truest observations of human behavior ever is in that movie. ''never underestimate the power of denial''. its the first stage of grieving and they just can't get past it. its sad really. especially the obsession they all seem to have with this website and its members. so them being able to overlook the spanking they receive on every level isn't that hard to imagine.
