PS3 needs a fps mascot! - Page 2 - Blu-ray Forum

Snake man. Common seriously MGS games have always been a huge selling point for the playstation brand. Hell I want to buy a PSP JUST for MGS Portable Ops and God of war.

Speaking of which, why cant Kratos be in there? Kratos is the baddest dude of all time, hes the freakin god of war, Master Chief and Samus are just puppets to him

I'd go with Snake but thats not really a FPS either.....

Kratos is the bomb (can't really do that yet though since there is no PS3 GoW), Nariko is a great one, Snake from MGS is good too. But not too sure how either of them would appeal to "the masses".

My vote would be with Solid Snake as well. I think the MGS games are the best games from both the PS1 and PS2 eras, and I seriously doubt MGS4 will disappoint.

Snake, or Kratos/Nariko sounds awesome. Though, as someone noted, not really FPS characters. Great mascots no less.

Screw the HAZE dude. Nobody even knows if that game is worth a damn yet.

Drake from Uncharted might be a good candidate... but again... let's wait and play the game.

Nathan Hale is so so, but he's no mascot.

Lara Croft isn't a bad mascot either, but again, not FPS character.

Can someone explain why we need this again?

It has to be snake then for the simple fact that MGS have an outstanding reputation. Resistance is just 1 game, and haze isnt even out yet (could be the next LAIR for all we know)

MGS+playstation has a long history, same with the other two and their respective systems.

By the way you can play through ALL of MGS4 in FPS mode. Kojima said so in that gameplay footage.

I remember apx. 10 years ago watching the ad for Metal Gear:Solid Snake on TV. I immediately wanted to get a Playstation just so I could play that game which I later got as a Christmas present. I know I am not the only one who did that very same thing. Solid Snake should be a huge mascot for the PS3 and if the next installment turns out to be as good as I hope it will be, I'd bet that Solid Snake will be a system seller again.

As far as FPS-specific mascot, I do not know. Resistance's Nathan Hale is just not too memorable and does not hold up as well, IMHO

Didn't the OP say an FPS mascot lol? I've heard Sony has payed the guys over a Epic to create a totally new game that plays like Gears of War on the PS3.... sounds nice!! ....and east nails for breakfast :P

I agree w/ master chief, but Samus how is she the mascot of Nintendo, I would say Mario my man. The mascot thing is a dying breed for consoles, remember back in 1996 when all the game consoles had their own mascot. Sony had Crash Bandicoot (which is no longer owned by SCEA or Naughty Dog), Nintendo had Mario and Sega had Sonic. None of these characters other than Mario have held up till this generation as their respectful mascot. Master Chief obviously is the mascot for 360, since there really isn't any other notable characters on the console. For the PS3 as of right now it's Ratchet and Clank, not Nathan Hale from Resistance as PS3's mascot, but Nariko from Heavenly Sword would be cool (she is really hot). In my opinion the mascot thing is dead. Sure people recognize master chief b/c of all the hype around the whole Halo franchise, and Mario is just classic that everyone recognizes.

I love Ratchet but I do have to remind some that I said First Person Shooter. I say if Killzone2 can come up with something, we will be in good shape.

If anything, Mario is the face of Nintendo, not Samus. Metroid Prime 3 sold a relatively disappointing half million units in the USA.

One of the strengths of the PlayStation brand is that it has many strong contenders and many strong franchises associated with it. The Xbox 1 was forever painted as the Halo box. The Xbox 360 is trying hard to shake the FPS-centric roots with games like Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, and Viva Pinata, but I don't think it's quite managed it (especially not in Japan, where Microsoft can't even give the bloody things away hardly).

Why would we want the PS3 to fall into the same pattern of pigeonholed mediocrity?

Exactly.

But having said that, in Japan..

Toro's sortof seen as the PlayStation mascot.

It´s a fact that the PS doesen´t have a FPS mascot... we can´t deny it ...

SNAKE is (and always will be) a real bomb for the PS.
MGS has by far the best story of all time,
but it´s no FPS!

There is no FPS since the beginning we could call "FPS PS mascot"...

same with Kratos, Bomb, but no FPS!

We will have some bad ass shooter´s like Killzone 2 / HAZE etc. we will see how this goes...

but, keep in mind...the Story is a big part for a mascot also....

that's something that xbox can't say, nintendo can, but they're gay.

Sony may have lost many characters but they keep coming back with newer and maybe better characters.
