Dognosh, your reply has just cost me £1,800....

I am AMAZED the DVD is NOT region coded!!

When you say you chaned the display from laptop to Sony TV, do you mean you just changed it to Monitor out? (I have an LG HDTV you see! - LG make the panels for Sony!)

This is great news.

This makes this laptop totally future proof - (and unique?)

ok, now need to source the laptop, looking forward to it, will review it myself and some nice screen grabs. Does Nero work yet on the laptop to write ~Blu Ray?

it recognised the SONY plasma so when i went into nvidia control panel i changed frop laptop dislay to the sony TV one

got mine from dabs.com , sony shops do it for £2000 with a £100 voucher for extras,i got the extended battery(£279 )

don't believe "future proof" as they can upgrade firmware in future to make it region coded, might be like this for now to make it sell ? (not that they are making a song and dance about it)

and if you think "well i won't upgrade my firmware if patch is region code restricted" , then you might lose bug fixes

this VAIO is the dogs dangly bits
except the sound which is normal and could have been a lot better, but for movie watching it is connected to my pioneet AV receiver

just a quickie:

1, sound - i bought an AWESOME usb powered pair of speakers which sound miles better than the vaio ones do (i have 6 laptops in my business a297xp being last one)

2) price down to £1730 now! cheapest i have found on net, seeing this has 200gb of storage HDMI and blu ray, i think its a comparative steal, although some may baulk at the price
