Store presentations are rarely a good indication as far as audio and video is concerned.

Very true.. samsung and sony have a JV that makes the screens. quality is pretty much the same. price is a little different. you do get a little more with the sony but unless your a tech guy you probbly won't notice.

what every you do don't buy toshiba.... f#@@#$@# them... Sony, Samsung, Panasonic... are my first choices and I hear the Sharp Aquos line is pretty good too but can't speak from experience.

I'd go with the Sony Bravia's as well That's what I have and they're awesome. If you look for a good deal you can get a 40 inch one under 2 grand, I know I did.

I have the Sony KDL-46V3000 and it rocks! You can't go wrong with it and yes it has a 10 bit panel. I recently saw it on Amazon.com for about $1700, which is really good and far less than what I paid! Def go with the Sony, better in almost all respects!

I can highly recommend the SONY Bravia.
I have the 46 inch and the PQ on it is superb!

The Bravia is consistently rated as one of the best LCD's on the market today.

Apparently Panasonic gets no love here. Price perception?

I actually have both Sony Bravia LCD and Panasonic Plasma.
I love both and both have been super reliable.

Plasma and LCD both have their pros and cons,
so I'd have a hard time choosing.

I would recommend LCD for Sony and Panasonic for a Plasma

Previously I had nothing but Toshiba televisions. Last year I decided to replace the old RPTV with a newer 1080p set from Toshiba. I bought it from my regular dealer and all was well, until on the 2nd day I turned the set on and the whole picture was titled at a 45 degree angle. WTF? Called the dealer, he came and got the set, and then called me to say he would replace it with another one. Got that one and about a week later I noticed multicolored lines going across the top of the screen about 2 inches wide. It went back and I got a refund. Bought a Sony SXRD and couldn't be happier. That was the last of the Toshiba lines for me.

Sidenote: When I went back to the dealer later to get my refund, I noticed that 3 of the televisions on display (Toshibas) all had some odd thing going on with them.

well everyone knows that sony and samsung have the JV to make their panels. so really the only diff in PQ will then be their processors.

bravia vs DNie.

bravia = won most awards ever in this segment.
DNie = most professional sites tell you to turn off the DNie enhancer when you get the set home.

that speaks for itself.

So what exactly does Bravia do? Is it comparable to the Micronas chip?

I wouldn't put any money into toshiba Thats only supporting hddvd. I picked up a sony sxrd and couldn't be happier. Well I would be happy if hddvd would go away.

I have never bought a Toshiba product that worked correctly, from TV's to laserdisc players, so I would probably never buy anything made by Toshiba. That is one of the reasons I went with BD. As for a 1080P HD, I love my Samsung DLP and delivers 1080/24p

I have a Tosh LCD 37" in one room and I attest to the fact that there is a definite "green push". Although the set has worked flawlessly and NO dead pixels, the green push can be a little bothersome.
