At the very least, this policy of countering any big HD-DVD release, on the few weeks Blu-ray does not have an exclusive blockbuster, is going to frustrate HD-DVD, and maintain Blu-rays market share.

At best it will bring in the PS3 market and maybe even attract those on the sidelines, including HD-DVD owners, unable to resist cheap movies.

i think that is exactly what the BDA is doing just that making sure the HARDWARE company's can recoup their losses on the hardware in a timely manner..there are many other CE HARDWARE companies that are backing Blu-Ray but have not put out a Blu-Ray player yet ..the reason is pretty much Toshiba has done 1080i as their HDM format..they have 1080p but they are not supporting 1080p like the BDA does support 1080p...there is no way any CE company outside of Toshiba can make a 1080i HD DVD PLAYER AND MAKE MONEY BACK .

Until later but at this point 1080p players are getting cheap enough that the CE companies see Blu-Ray as the better deal to make money on than HD DVD 1080p players because the 1080p Blu-Ray players are selling better than the 1080p HD DVD players.

Toshiba has regulated the HD DVD format to 1080i because the HD DVD promotional groups IDEA is 1080i is just as good as 1080p and why would anyone buy a 1080p HD DVD player when a 1080i HD DVD player cost's $98.00

that's why the BDA has gone with the cheaper media cost for the consumer on average it may only be $2.00 to $3.00 cheaper its still cheaper than HD DVD is on average for the consumer..
