Could you give a reason as to why you didn't like the ending of Lost? It split opinions at the time, and I love a good lost discussion. I put Lost down as the greatest TV series that I have seen. I have watched Breaking Bad, and I enjoyed that, but for me Lost has never been beaten.

Out of interest, was it a lack of understanding of the ending? Or other reason?

There was a TV Guide Channel special on famous good and bad endings, and Lost got a bit of comic outrage as one of the "bad" ones:
[Show spoiler]"They end up together in Heaven? I mean, c'mon, what does that answer?...The Jeffersons could end up in Heaven!"

Whilst I understand the mocking that they did, that technically wasn't the ending was it. The whole journey leading to that was the ending imo.
[Show spoiler]The characters finding each other

Lost was one of the greatest endings ever IMO. Loved every second of it. I was so worried it would suck.

Jason Smith used to be the nationwide late night radio talk show host for ESPN and one night he went off on Lost's series finale, which was especially idiotic since 1) he didn't even watch the show, and 2) he was going off of something he read which was completely wrong.

Some idiot on some random website thought
[Show spoiler]the ending meant they were dead the whole time and nothing on the show ever happened, despite Jack's father spelling it all out in capital letters with bright crayon colors,
and Smith read it and repeated it on his show as if it were the truth. That made me lose all respect for him. What kind of person reads something second hand and passes it along to a national audience as if he's an authority on the matter?

Glad to see no mentions of The Sopranos yet, one of the greatest endings ever. A lot of people seem to hate it though.

Whatever. ASP said she had the final scene for the show written during Season 2 and I am still dying to know what it was.
You do realize that the Palladinos were only gone for Season 7, right?

I agree with lost... if there was ever a show that needed an open ended no answers use your imagination ending it was lost.

Disagree with seinfield .. but it made for some great subject matter in the Seinfeld season of curb so im glad its hated

Was not a fan of the sg1 finale. Great episode but a bad ending to a long running show.

There are several series enders that got a bad rap that I liked: Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Angel, and Forever Knight, to name four.

Other than the obvious cases of series that ended without any resolutions, I can only think of one series ending that I wasn't happy with: Saving Grace. Given the premise of the show, I'm not sure exactly what I thought was going to happen, but what we got wasn't it.

I was very surprised at how it ended and didn't like it at first, but after thinking about it, I was OK w/ it. She achieved her salvation through martyrdom. Perhaps she had to die that way to be saved; she was pretty screwed up otherwise and seemed to be getting worse...

It wasn't until I read an article describing the final scene that I appreciated the finale. It def went over my head, but the use of POV in that scene makes it clear that the screen going black was Tony dying, It was a very detailed article that gave a lot of evidence- including discussing the hitman (guy in Member's Only jacket) and his movement, as well as the way the camera shots alteranted between Tony's POV and regular shots- and was very convincing.

It shows a lot of artistry, but unfortunately it was too artistic for most of us and we got the feeling that everything was left up in the air, when in fact it was a very definite, final and masterful resolution.

I realize you weren't asking me, but I'll respond anyways.

I'd have to go back and re-watch it to give specifics, but I thought the entire final season of Lost sucked, horribly bad. I found it totally nonsensical, and it didn't tie up many of the loose ends from previous episodes (ie the numbers). It was must watch TV for several years for me, and I'll remember the previous seasons fondly (actually it was the very first thing I ever watched in HDTV, except at the store, ABC re-ran the pilot episode the night I got the TV) . But god I was disappointed at the ending.

I'm STILL conflicted about the ending, can't decide if I love it or hate it!

The problem with Lost is that the way it was built up -- by the fans as well as by the network and producers -- I don't think it was possible to pull off any ending that wouldn't piss off a lot of people. Or one that different people would interpret radically differently. One friend of mine was absolutely convinced that they were all dead the whole time, from the moment the plane crashed in the pilot. I thought that everything we saw "really happened" -- even taking into account all of the craziness that abounded -- and the church was just an aspect of the afterlife where each person went to whenever they passed on.

I liken the Lost finale to the epigram about dancing bears: what's impressive about dancing bears isn't that they can dance well, but that they can dance at all.
