It's VC-1 apparently, so it must be the same encode as before. I'm looking good for that £1 bet with McCrutchy that Interview with the Vampire will have the same old encode.

As for AGS, I do like the movie and I wanna get a look see at the theatrical version, even if it is only on DVD.

Very disappointing about the Theatrical, but maybe for the 20th anniversary we can get a super combo in the new Diamond deluxe edition....

Sorry for the sarcasm, rough day at the office.

I'd love to see this released with Diamond Luxe packaging!

I remember preferring the DC anyway. Not paying $17 for this movie though, will wait for a sale.

Way to rain on my parade Warner. I want to see the theater cut, badly want to see it. Do I want to spend $20 or so on a freaking dvd of it, included with the BD I already own (sans new doc)? Probably not. In fact, **** no I won't do that! Cheap bin, used or bust for me too. I've already waited 15 years to see it, another 1 won't kill me, but playing WB's double-dip game might just kill my bank.

Had it been a new BD with both versions I probably would pay release day prices. Hope someone from Warner reads these forums and we might get through to them about how they hardly ever give us what we really want. DVD only in 2014? And you know this isn't Stone going Lucas on us. Eat a dick Warner!

In the review it says "the same DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 mix is included in this Blu-Ray" yet the previous edition had a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mix...

My Amazon preorder is locked at $13.99, currently. In light of this news, I'm a little on the fence of whether I should cancel. Decisions...decisions...

Why do you guys prefer theatrical?

Honest question. Genuinely curious.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me it all about having the content on BD. I'm buying a blu-ray, not a dvd. But instead of giving us a 2BD set, OR a 1BD set seamlessly branched, WB saved some money and threw in a dvd.

They are just following the movie studio axiom: Keep them wanting more.

Yes but unless you prefer the theatrical cut that DVD is pointless anyway. That's why I'm asking, I assumed people cared about having the theatrical cut.

I prefer having everything that is available, in the best format available.
If I want to watch the Director's cut on Monday, then I feel like watching the theatrical cut on Friday, I don't want to have to do it via dvd.

Fair enough. They should offer it via seamless branching, I agree. I just personally don't care much about the theatrical cut so it doesn't me. I was wondering if others actually preferred it.

I'm sure a lot of people do. Then there's some folks that, like me, want both on BD. Because now that the theatrical is known to be on dvd, it's really not that much better than the original BD release. At least in my opinion.

I have no idea if I prefer it, I just want to see it as I missed the theater run and all dvd, blu-ray and even cable airings have been the DC. I've literally dvdr'ed this flick 5 times as the listings said rated R, hoping to finally see the theater cut. Each time it was the same DC. It was even the DC edited for TBS speedup!

It's odd as most movies had a theater version on some format, just not this one. Now they finally offer it but dvd is week in 2014. We all want HD and dvd feels like a slap in the face. It's disrespectful to the film, it's makers and it's fans (at this point in time, 5 years ago would've been acceptable).

Given that Oliver Stone has stated that he prefers the DC, I can't help but wonder if he requested the theatrical to be DVD only? It's not like Warners had a slew of untouched theatrical DVDs just sitting in a vault which they threw in on a whim, as it's never been released that way on home video AFAIK.

Still, Warners have form (sort of) for this sort of thing, putting the long version of Big Red One on the Blu-ray in SD only. And the theatrical cut of Watchmen in the Ultimate box set is on DVD too (though that one was a pre-existing disc, unlike AGS).

Last edited by Geoff D; 09-05-2014 at 10:55 PM. Reason: said vault too many times. vault. damn! did it again.

So according to the review, the theatrical cut now isn't included at all, not even as a DVD? Can anyone who has got it yet confirm this?
