USA Any Given Sunday: 15th Anniversary Edition (1999) - September 9, 2014

Any Given Sunday is being re-released as an all-new 15th Anniversary Edition, with "new extras" yet to be confirmed.

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=14075

The existing release is pretty packed, so I'm not sure what they're gonna add on.

They changed the original title of the film with a new font on the front artwork :S Also, the border looks tacky.

$13.99 on Amazon:

I wonder if it'll include the theatrical cut, even though I couldn't tell you what the differences at this point?

The only difference known right now is that it includes a new featurette retrospective titled "Anything Can Happen" featuring NFL stars Marshall Faulk, and Willie McGinest, 49ers coach Steve Mariucci, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Assume everything else is identical to the previous release.

Even so, as long as this is on the way I'm glad I never broke down and bought the old one from a pawnshop.

This would be about the only reason I would double dip (outside of an awesome new transfer, but it's WB, so I know that won't happen) since I've never even seen it. Stone mentions many things on the commentary about differences, but I can't recall most of them and seem to recall some contradictory info there. My biggest 'missed it in the theater' regret, love the DC and am sure I would love any cut. Why does the universally hated, and terrible Alexander get 3 cuts on home video and this masterpiece gets only one?

Here's a snippet from IMDB regarding the differences:

Quote:
Although billed as the "Director's Cut" and boasting 6 minutes of added footage, the U.S. DVD version is actually shorter than the U.S. theatrical release, which ran 162 minutes. Even with the added footage, home video versions run a mere 157 minutes. Among scenes/shots cut from the DVD incarnation...

[Show spoiler]
  • Some locker room footage during halftime of the first game.

  • A voiceover phone call between Cindy and Christina following the first game is re-cut.

  • Tony's drunken barroom speech about giving everything for his players, prominently featured in the trailer, is entirely removed.

  • The second game is re-cut.

  • Game 3 begins with a Kid Rock song in the theatrical version. The DVD opens game 3 with a Black Sabbath song, and the game is heavily edited, with much of the football action rearranged or cut entirely.

  • A beach football game between the players and bikini-clad beauties is trimmed.

  • A brief bit in which Rooney antagonizes Willie during practice is cut.

  • The final game is slightly re-edited, with a new scene of a player losing an eye added, as well as more footage of Caps's comeback montage, but other plays are cut in slightly different ways.

If that is the only new special feature, I'll pass on double dipping. I would have considered it if the retrospective was with the cast and crew. I always enjoy those.

Another WB double dip. I have the original release, so I'll pass.

Really sad, WB has the biggest library to work with and all they do is re-issue titles.

This was the first film I walked out of due to the editing and quick camera movements. Got about half way through and then gave up. Might have been a good film, but I don't know.

Well yeah, but on a separately included DVD (!), with the Blu-ray being the director's cut with the new featurette. At least that's my understanding.
