Other companies abstained from voting and Disney should have as well if they really want to put their money where their mouth is.

The hardware manufacturer's could end this now if they wanted to as well. No way Toshiba is bigger than Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, JVC, etc. Even with MS behind them.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
hehe Disney's vote in September was a good one in my opinion keeping them good with there consumer base. There 2.0 vote is a brilliant follow up....Disney shows there customers they want to give the best and HD-DVD cant provide...It puts HD-DVD on the spot to meet BR standards when it comes to disk space which cant be done with there current player lineup. Toshiba has lost alot of MONEY and wont make the grade..hmm I wounder how much they would charge for that triple layer player .....99.99 lol lol .This war will be over late 2008.Toshiba is to stretched.

Because Disney has been involved there since the beginning. They're the rare member that actually has voted on HD DVD related items whereas everyone else abstains. And remember that they were quite involved with HDi as well. So they have their reasons for keeping some amount of control there but their focus is with Blu-ray.

The HD DVD group is going to use every misunderstood quote it possibly can even when it wasn't what he said but are quoting it from someone else who misquoted it to make BD look bad.

XBit's editor, Anton Shilov, is a hardcore HD DVD supporter.
He's cited AVS FUD on more than one occasion and reports anything negative towards BD. I've complained about it here before, especially since sites like NeoWin use them as a news source.

I am not sure if Disney will be going HD but they probably will if both formats stay around for another year or so

Why do you think Disney would go HD dvd if both formats are still competing for another year?

Don't look to far into it. It's just technology nothing more. Was I the only one that caught them saying New Line was HD exclusive when we are getting them miles ahead of HD?

And, who knows what their motivations were in voting for the 51GB disc? Perhaps they see an advantage to allowing a Media format onto the market that won't work with all 3 current generation players. This scenario will most likely force consumers to purchase another HD DVD player in order to support the new disc. That would certainly put a halt to HD DVD disc sales.

Disney is smart, they are successful. the 51 GB disc does nothing to increase bandwidth, BD will STILL have space advantages with 100gb discs.....i see nothing wrong with the company making the smart move of planning for the future...if we get stuck with HD DVD id like to have 51 gb discs.....

Id vote yes for it also, im realistic.

If HD DVD fans want to rejoice because Disney has voted for more space, they should look at the region encoding issue you mentioned and realize that Disney has asked for that capability and so far the HD DVD side has basically said, "No". I wonder how many HD DVD fans would be happy if Toshiba and the rest of the HD DVD group give in and find a way to add region encoding support (along with someone to oversee it), for Disney and New Line. I'm sure some fans are under some delusion that Toshiba couldn't add this to current players, but Toshiba never promised those players would be region free and all they would have to do is have some discs come out that won't work without new firmware (like new AACS keys), then add region encoding with that new firmware.

I would personally be happy if Disney demanded higher bandwidth (with 1.5x spin rate) and TL51s, got them and then released on HD DVD. At that point the lowest common denominator wouldn't mean much lower limits for HD DVD. I like Blu-ray, but it is mostly because they didn't make the 1.0x spin rate mistake (IMO) the HD DVD side made and I think it would be great if the HD DVD side would step up and fix that mistake, instead of trying to stick us with that bad decision for years. I don't expect them to fix that one at this point (even though if they had it to do over again, I don't think they would make the same decision), but if they did fix their bandwidth issue and also went to 51GB, I wouldn't have a problem with them winning.
