I'm happy with the screen size of the main HDTV; however, I don't like the fact that I got a DLP, I really wish I had purchased an LCD instead. I just got a 45" Sharp (It was on clearance, brand new in the box at Sears for $550, which was a good deal for a 720P/1080i that was originally $1900 months ago) and a 32" Sony for two other rooms, so I won't be looking to get an other TV for while. TV prices are dropping, so by 2009 I hope to get rid of the DLP and replace it with a 52" Sony XBR.

Out of curiosity since the Toshiba / Paramount deal I have certain hate for Toshiba where I actually would never buy any of their products. But I also trash them as a company to potential customers every chance I get. Anyone else feel this way?
yeah, with a choice between toshiba and sony, it's a no-brainer. I went to best buy this weekend to get my mom a portable dvd player for x-mas. They had a sony and toshiba among other brands. Sony was clearly the better even though it was 10 bucks more, but it was on sale for 40 dollars off. So, I got the Sony. But yeah, since this whole war, I don't look at toshiba as just another company. They're the bad company.

Yeah I have the Samsung 61" 1080p DLP. For the size DLP is the way to go as far as cost is concerned. I was in Circuit City the other day and they had the Mitsubishi 73" DLP running, and I decided I wanted that one. My wife decided for me that was a bad idea, however. :-) And as a side note, they were actually playing Transformers on HD DVD on it.....such a waste using such things on a nice television like that.

The rainbow effect is a real issue.

You may not see it, but I do and there is no way I would ever buy a DLP set regardless of size or value because I would not enjoy it.

Sony LCD HDTV's do not have rainbow effect issues.

Yeah, I've read about it. I haven't had too much of an issue. Or maybe it's good that my vision sucks and I can't see it. Regardless, I am actually surprised at how pleased I am with it. I actually went from a 42" Panasonic Plasma (720p) to the bigger DLP because of its size and the fact that it was 1080p. I wasn't sure at first but I've come to like it.

The rainbow effect is caused by the spinning color wheel in single chip DLP designs. Three chip designs do not have this problem, though they are also currently not competively priced. Many cinemas are starting to use DLP projection systems and the ones I have seen (Christie though not sure of the model) are very nice.

Answering the question of the OP, I'm now on my 4th HD display. I've had a 34" widescreen CRT (sold) , a 50" rear projection DLP (sold), and currently a 32" LCD, and a DLP front projector.

I don't see myself replacing the front projector anytime soon though I could really use a larger LCD or plasma than the 32" for the bedroom. I have contemplated moving the current front projector in there and upgrading the main viewing room, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I just bought my Mitsubishi 73" DLP about a month ago and I'm already considering selling it and buying the new Sony 70" SXRD rear projection when it comes out in the next few months...but that really depends on how much it costs.
