I think he must have problems burning his own copy onto a CD.

If you send me a return postage paid CD-R I'll burn you a copy.
The postage shouldn't run you more than $2.50 or so both ways.
(already did this for a member in another forum)

Wasn't going to install the update as all was working very well, but a Superbad BD I tryed to play kept coming up "copyright violation" and would freeze in the middle. (got it from Netflix). So, I installed 1.3 tonight. Went very well.

However, the Superbad disc still came up a number of times "copyright violation" and once "disc incompatible."

But, otherwise, the player works great. I am hoping it was just a bad disc. Everything still plays great.

It's the disc. Superbad played fine on mine.

Default Problems with 1.3 FW Upgrade

I just tried to update my BD30 to 1.3, I burned two CD's using the Panasonic instructions on my Vista desktop. The player would start the firmware upgrade (BYE then read, show FI/UP for about a minute) then eject the disc.

I burned a new disc on my Notebook w/XP Pro and it worked flawlessly!

I had created my 1.2 upgrade disk using Roxio on the same desktop just after I bought the BD30. Hmmmm......Could there be a problem with Vista?

I suggest, If you follow the Panasonic instructions (which use the embedded burn functions in windows) for burning a disk you should NOT use Vista, Use Windows XP if you can - Or - use Roxio or other burning software.

With the BD10, sometimes the firmware will eject the disc and sit there for awhile

You have to burn it with an XP PC, Vista will not work for some reason. I found this out after a little playing around. This is one thing I hope they fix sometime soon.

I was waiting as well for Sunshine to be fixed in a "1.4" F/W. I just now got off the phone with Panny and they said they had no reports of a Sunshine issue. So, they said that when people call in...make sure you get an 8 digit case number or it will be lost.

yeah, watched Sunshine last night and the audio went all crazy 3 different times for about 10 seconds each time. That was the first issue I have ever had with this player. Kind of disappointed. I had this great feeling this player was flawless...., still the best though, hopefully that is the only issue I will have.

Audio:

"This makes my second DTS MA review since upgrading our equipment for lossless DTS decoding. And it was potentially one of the most overwhelming sonic experiences I’ve had. Though initially it came with some major hiccups that were about as annoying as the unending HD DVD audio problems I’ve had using the XA1 and XA2. Watching Sunshine, the sound dropped out a number of times during the film and broke-up a few more. The video also paused for a few seconds several times. I’m not referring to the climax which is supposed to breakup a little. No, this was far more annoying. Fortunately Panasonic already had a firmware update out from last Dec that our new BD30 didn’t have installed. Ten minutes later, everything seemed OK. At least it seemed to fix the dropouts in the few places I checked. I’m guessing it had something to do with the PIP java functions of the disc.
With everything working properly, the lossless DTS audio brings the film’s events to life in a room quaking experience that you won’t soon forget. DTS has been known to or at least suspected of pumping bass and surrounds on DVD for years. And it sounds like that might be the case here. Surrounds are extremely aggressive with lots of directionality. But the volume almost seemed to shift balance more to the rear of the room than just about any other sound experience I’ve heard from either PCM or TrueHD. And if the room can hold up to this mixes low frequency extension, that’s where I’d want to be in the event of an earthquake. Bass is deep and there’s a lot of it. But, it’s also fantastically articulate in how the lfe track is used. Whether the sound design has been augmented by DTS or not, it offers quite the overwhelming experience.

This Site is very reliable and especially Mr.chad so i guess you should update your firmware to 1.3.Firmware update is done to improve the mechanism and not vice versa.

Some have said that 1.3 made it worse. I will try with my 1.2 and see how it goes!
