Hey there! (first post)
I actually have a question regarding this very thing! The other night I was attempting to update my BD30 with firmware vs.1.2. However, My player would not recognize the contents on the burned CD-R disc. ![]() What I did was download firware 1.2 and the zipped the contents onto the desktop and then proceeded to burn the unzipped file onto a CD-R. Was I doing something wrong? Thanks! P.S. - Because I was unable to figure out how to update the firmware, I'm having an update disc with 1.2 sent to my house. I'd like to omit this step if possible and update directly from the comforts of my home. Last edited by Reveries119; 12-25-2007 at 04:08 PM. |

howdy,
I used the burning software that come with windows vista. It's set by default so it automatically pops up when a blank disc is inserted. And yes, I do believe the disc was finalized Maybe I should give it a go on my mac...I was using my fathers PC when I made the attempt |

Panasonic does their updates differently than the other manufacturers, and it seems more error-prone as a result. On a PC, your best bet is to use a disc mastering software such as Nero, Roxio Easy CD, or similar product. Choose to create a new disc (no multisession), drag the file to the disc, then click burn. Using the included Vista utility may work, but there could be issues with the way that utility formats/finalizes the disc. On your Mac, Toast should work fine (create an ISO disc)... not sure about others. |

I love how the instructions tell you to burn the update to a disc. I tried that 3 times with it not working on my player. Then simply burned as a data cd with ez cd creator and worked flawless! Maybe they changed the way they want you to burn and never really told anyone. But when I tried they way they wanted me to do it no go.

Thank you for all the reccomendations!
As we speak, I am updating my player to firmware version 1.3 All I did was use Roxio (as opposed to the default windows burner) and created a data disc. The process as of now, is proceeding smoothly. Thanks again for all the help!! |

I had the same problem where the BD30 didn't recognize my burned disc. I burned it with Vista and did close the session on the CD (finalized the disc). After the player said the disc was unreadable, I then tried using Roxio Easy CD Creator. The BD30 recognized it. What? Dunno. I'm just glad I got it to recognize it.

Just did the 1.3 update w/o a single problem on my Mac. Here's some hints for the Mac guys out there using Leopard...
When you download the firmware, change the .exe to .zip, when OSX asks you about the change, tell it to keep .ZIP Unstuff with stuffit expander. If you just double click it OSX will try to archive it rather than unstuff it. The unstuffed file will be named PANA_DVD.FRM Click on the PANA_DVD.FRM icon once to highlight it. Under the File menu in the Finder choose "Burn PANA_DVD.FRM to disc. Insert a blank CD as prompted and keep the name "untitled". There is no need to change the name of the disk. Be sure to let Mac verify the disc after the burn. The BD30 doesn't like disc errors. Take your CD and follow the instructions for the upgrade. Should work great. Takes about 5 minutes. Hope this helps somebody. ![]() |

Just to let you all know I talked to Tech support and they told me that the file put on the Global site was uploaded from Japan and that the techs in the US have not had a chance to test it yet. So if you feel ok to update go ahead with warning.
