Default The problem as I understand it

was localized to Canada for the wrong disc (go figure?).

As to rough edges, I never even checked, but mine play fine and that's all I care about.

Yeah, I'm in Canada and my Workprint is the final cut. I also noticed rough edges but who the hell cares if it plays right. I just want to know when Warner will do something about exchanging those duplicate discs. I'm also surprised by the amount of people worried about non hd extras and duplicates and rough edges, I mean, you're getting one of the best movies of the past 30 years and 4 other discs for 35 bucks, take a chance already.

There is always going to be someone to complain about nothing.

No troubles with my copy.

Is this true? We can buy the US version with confidence?

Say it's so.

Easy to say if it didn't make your blu-ray player sound like a motorized grinding wheel. Actually, I watched Final Cut again and to my surprise, it didn't cause any vibration during playback, unlike the first time.

The rough edges are ... unnerving is all.

If they don't cause a problem, it's fine. It just looks and feels like it would.

The problem that a lot of people are not seeing about the rough edge issues is that it is very noticeable depending on how bad it is (and what player you are using). I have gone through 2 replacements with Amazon and my PS3 hums violently for about 6 chapters into the movie. It is very annoying and I can actually hear the hum even if the volume is turned up. It is a manufacturing defect that should of been addressed in production. None of my other blu-ray movies do this so it was very obvious to me when the movie started playing. That said, if it plays quiet for you in your player then that's great. I know for me though, it is not acceptable.

I got mine from amazon.com so I assume mine is the US version and everything was fine. Haven't checked the rough edges though. I played all the disks and haven't really noticed any humming from my PS3.

I've been getting discs with rough edges since I started buying BDs and none of them have caused me any playback issues. The 3 BDs in my Collector's Edition are indeed a bit gnarly, but the 4 discs in my Planet Earth are just as bad; my PoTC: Dead Man's Chest, the second BD I bought, is none too smooth, so I've always written off rough edges as some benign byproduct of the hardcoat application. I briefly wondered why some discs were so much smoother than others, but it wasn't affecting my viewing experience so I let it go. It wasn't till Blade Runner came out that I heard anyone complain about them.

I have heard of this issue before so I totally agree with you. I tried my discs on my friends Sony stand alone player and the vibration/humming isn't nearly as noticeable as it is on the PS3. It might just be that the PS3 is more sensitive to these rough edges. For me the humming was similar to a high pitched ringing that some people can hear while others don't notice it. My wife noticed it immediately once I put in the movie though so at least I know I am not the only one hearing it . I am trying one more time with Amazon but if it also has this issue, I am just going to sell it to my friend and wait a few months. Hopefully they will get the problems ironed out by then.

The potential for defective product is part of the special burden of the early adopter.

Perhaps your PS3 is more sensitive to these edges; I have yet to have any trouble on mine.

If you haven't already, you might try changing the unit's orientation---standing it vertically, if it's currently sitting horizontally, or vice-versa---to see if that improves your experience.

That is exactly why I am going to keep trying until I get a smooth one. My friend got a perfect one at Best Buy tonight. He brought it over and there is no humming at all. So I guess I will just pick it up locally next week if the next one has the same issue.

Well, my workprint is correct but I have run into an issue I have never heard of.

Also, as a newbie to the forum any advice would be good.

The Final Cut on my Ultimate/Briefcase edition comes up in the menus as some Asian language rather than english. Every other disk comes up correct. Anybody else run into that issue?

What should I do about it?

Oh, a Canadian PS3 with the latest updates and the disk itself is from Amazon.com.

I got the rough edge discs, and while it doesn't affect playback on the screen, they are kinda loud.

Thanks, f1ip! Sorry I'm late replying, kinda got carried away by the news and stuff.

Off to order my copy from Amazon.com.

One thing that P.O.'ed me, was that I bought it brand-new from Amazon.com and when it arrived, it did in fact have the factory shrink wrap and security sticker intact. Now the weird thing is this: all the discs were in place and had not jarred loose during shipping, yet 3 of 5 discs have minor scratches on them....
Same here, my disc where also loose so upon opening the case dics 4 and 5 fell out to the carpet and as I picked it up to look at bottom for scratches. I see two big fingerprints on disc 5. And then I checked my other discs and they all seem to have scratches. Overall I think WB did a very bad job packaging the case. Also the plastic cover outside is all wrinkly and its all scrunched up. Do you guys know where I can find a replacement case?

Also when I play the movie on my PS3, it makes a low bass frequency humming noise or something isn't loud, but you can just hear it and feel it?

Earlier, WB did have an issue with Blade Runner because Disc 5 is the duplicate of Disc 1 so they fix them and I was very happy that my box set has no issues. Must buy!!!!!
