Couple of months ago I popped in my brother's VHS tape to watch. After seeing the opening scene in space with the meteors whacking the crap out of stuff, I turned it off. Why? I want to remember as little as possible until this is out on blu-ray. Already on my Amazon wishlist, though it is unavailable.

I can't believe how the critics panned this film because of that crying scene when Willis took the suicide mission. That is one of the most moving pieces of cinema I have ever seen.

Definitely! I hope they use the same version of the movie they used for the criterion edition. I think it would look awesome.

If I'm not mistake, Armageddon has never been available in an animorphic transfer. (I know the criterion version is non-animorphic) so a Blu-Ray release would be great.

Not a bad catalog title. I think a decent number of people would certainly be interested in this title, I being one of them. ^^

I've never seen it.

But,.. I think Liv Tyler is pretty and I think Aerosmith has part of the soundtrack. I think I would buy this on Blu Ray.

You're correct, which really surprises me why they haven't released a special edition on DVD. I just sold my CC edition not too long ago in hopes that I will one day own this in blu.

Good point.........the acting was way over the top & cliche'd.

Oh definitely. In fact, I just watched the Criterion standard DVD last night on a Sony BDP-S300. The upconvert was very poor and there was a distorted aspect ration that I could not overcome via any settings on the Blu-Ray player nor the 52-inch Sharp Aquos 1080p LCD. Even the sound quality was muffled from compression compared to Blu-Ray discs.

Armageddon is an all-time favorite for me -- as is nearly every Michael Bay film to date. Surely Disney will eventually release this gem on Blu-Ray. Michael Bay will insist on it.

I much preferred Deep Impact, but they were definitely two different kinds of movies.

I'd pick up Armageddon for sure...and some time in 2009 I'll pick up Deep Impact from Paramount.

Hey, Snap, how you doing?

The other part of the movie that made me laugh (and not in a good way) was that after the current Shuttle got destroyed in the space, well, they just so happened to have these next generation Super-duper Space Shuttles hiding out in that secret hangar, all ready for the critical mission into space. Yeah, sure. How convenient!

Otherwise, visually, it was quite stunning. Could they simply computer-eliminate the actors and give us all the great visuals instead?

Well I think you could do the whole "how convient" thing in every movie. As for the shuttles being hidden away in a secret hanger, I don't think they ever said they were hiding them and that they were in a secret hangar. I think they said it was for some other mission. And I don't think it was because the other shuttle was blown up in space either.
