Welcome Julyccc.
I'm certain you will be pleased with blu-ray and will not perceive it as a down grade from hd dvd.
If you like Sci-fi you should consider picking up Close Encounters of the Third Kind it was written and directed by Stephen Spielberg.

I just checked there and apparently you plan on selling your movies?

Listen, don't do it just because you feel guilty or something and don't want to upset your fellow HDDVDers. If you want to sell them because you genuinely don't like them, then go ahead.

I too jumped on the Bluray Bandwagon, and picked up the Panasonic DMP-BD30 from BB with the 10 free movies (5 in store and 5 by mail). I will say it has been quite enjoyable to go out and purchase the movies I was unable to watch in High Definition previously. That being said, I will not be selling off my HD movies or equipment, I will keep it to enjoy the movies I have already purchased.

You are betraying HD DVD. You're also doing the right thing. We welcome you in joining us here on blu-ray.com as we witness the end of the format war. I also invite other HD DVD supporters to abandon their hopeless format and side with us as we deliver the final crushing blows.

Welcome! Enjoy your blu-ray movies. As Michael Bay said, soon you'll have Transformers on Blu-ray. We just need to be a bit patient.
