You're missing an annoying picture glitch, like random droppped frames, whenever the DTS track is selected. Glad to see that it's finally been dealt with. That means you can watch all the upcoming Fox titles with no playback problems.

Just updated it, there's no progress meters and as said it takes a long time, so best to leave the room.

Menu system looks the same as before, according to what I've read the upconvertion of standard dvds is now very good, on a par with the toshiba hd dvd players. Hurrah! Gonna try it out now.

Firmware update cut 10 seconds off of my player's load time; from closing disc tray to promo trailer on Paramount disc it only took 25 seconds!!! The DTS frame drop is also gone

One word of caution...it resets some of your menu settings, i.e. audio set-up, etc. so you have to go back in and customize. Not a big deal though. Just a heads up.

I think this was one of the main reasons they put this out when they did... Could you imagine having to watch all of the Fox titles, while skipping the whole time... Horrible.

I called Samsung again today in an attempt to find out exactly what this firmware fixes.... The guy I talked to was not sure. I was placed on hold a couple times and when he came back he suggested this could be the firmware that was suppose to be due by the end of this month, which would mean it has the DNR chip turned off. I must caution that he made it very clear that he wasn't sure. Take this for what its worth....

I think the noise reduction was definitely addressed in this patch. I watched Click last night and for the first time, saw the "noise" everyone was talking about. I didn't understand why I wasn't seeing this and others were. As others have noted, there is a "tad" more sharpness to the image. I'm very please with the update. Discs do load faster, the hourglass is gone, and the images look great. This is a great player for what I am using it for.

If there is any other update, I would assume it is for Java if that has not already been addressed.

The uncompressed file is too big to email. Just download 7-zip:

http://www.7-zip.org/

and uncompress the file. After that, you will have a ISO file you can burn.

I agree, I saw a bit of Click after the firmware and was not as impressed as before... Im thinking this is the firmware that turns off the DNR chip. This link kind of confirms it- http://www.homemediaretailing.com/ne...rticle_ID=9821

A warning to everyone... This firmware appears to engage regional codes, so if you want a region free player, dont install it!!!! However, if this is the fianal firmware then it is suppose to make it BD-j compatable, so you may have no choice.

Yup. Download the exe file and install. Once it is fully installed, you should be able to right click on the Firmware and there will be a 7-zip option in your menu. Tell it to extract files and you will have a ISO file you can burn.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. For those who have already updated their Samsung, the cheapest way to get Region B playback is by getting a European PS3.

Begs the question though: Since Samsung is only released in NAmerica and Europe, is there a Region B firmware?

We can dream though, of an equal place. Were no matter you go BD DVD's will play on your BD-P1000. Were the HD DVD fan boys were blown up, and the toshiba players were all recalled. The rooms would be filled with popcorn and pepsi and all the little brats were asleep.
But there is no such place so I will just go to Walgreens get some Advil.

P.s. I don't have any kids.

From thedigitalbits.com "Also today, Samsung has finally issued their first official public firmware update for the BD-P1000 Blu-ray Disc player. You can find it here at this link on their website. It corrects the Genesis chip issue and adds functionality for new BD Java features among other things. You simply download the zipped archive, then burn the unzipped file onto a CD-R via the "burn image" option. Once you insert the disc into your player, it should recognize the file and begin updating the firmware automatically. It takes about 15 minutes, after which point the disc will pop out and the player will turn itself off. Then just fire it up again and the player should be updated. I've done it myself, and it worked like a charm. Good luck with the update."-Bill Hunt

I believe this firmware IS the one that was promised, fixing PQ and adding BD-J. From Samsung's BD Microsite, go to "Samsung Blu-Ray Disc Player", then click "Support": http://product.samsung.com/bluray/index.html

Quote:
Upgrade the Firmware of your BD-P1000 Player for a higher quality picture and enhanced capabilities.
From there, you can either download the existing firmware or have a CD mailed to you.
