Can I play Japanese Blu-rays on American PS3s? - Page 2 - Blu-ray Forum

Well, I live in the U.S. and have a Japanese PS3, and everything is the same. Actually, it can't play American DVD's since the region is different. Can't play PS2 games either.

So far none of their Blu-rays that don't include subs have been officially announced outside Japan, which is quite a few. Even the Patlabor movies (which do include subs/dub) haven't been released yet...

This is sooo real... i'm loading up on Blu's from Hong Kong next time I pass thru there...

Hmm.. There could be many reasons since your brother encoded the video himself (or copied it).

I think it has more to do with the video format it is encoded in, and it is likely encoded in a format that your BD player doesn't read.

You should try your discs on different players and on a PC to see if it will play properly. Sometimes the cheapest BD player (e.g. the $47 Seiki BD660) will play more formats than the higher-end brand name BD players.
