Default What region DVDs can 40gb PS3s play?

Do they only play region 4 DVDs?

They should all play the regional dvds that they belong to. Where did you get your 40Gb from? Region 4 should be Oceania and South America, correct? In that case, yeah, I think you have an Aussie version 40Gb model?

Mine is the US version, and only plays region 1 dvds.

only if the dvd has region encodes from other countries besides the area you live in then its playable in any ps3 just like a standard dvd player but however with blu-ray the region encoding is completely different

There is another catch: TV system.

US PS3 can't play region 0/All DVDs that are encoded in PAL. Asian PS3s can play region 3/All in either NTSC and PAL.

Glad I have my PC running AnyDVD in the background to handle the non-US region coded DVDs that may also be PAL-formatted...PC monitors aren't restricted like regular consumer TV's in regards to NTSC or PAL thankfully
