BoB was produced by Dreamworks (Spielberg is Executive Producer) but it was released by HBO. HBO is now Blu, so regardless of Dreamworks, BoB should come out in Blu.

Hopefully it is not released in 'volumes' like the JP HD-DVD release, and you have to buy each volume!

One box set thanks!

TV on DVD is primarily a rental medium in Japan, just like it was on VHS. For example, you'll pay over $200 a season for 24 (I found used copies at the bargain price of $80), and it comes on 12 discs. It'll be a box set. I'm far more concerned about what SRP HBO has planned for it. $149 is certainly more likely than not

Toshiba owns the Japanese rights, and I firmly believe that they chose this title SPECIFICALLY because it's not in the US. Seriously, of titles like Equilibrium that they own that aren't available in the US< I've been told that they sell more to American and European importers than domestically

I was thinking that the other day as well that when this does hit blu that it is not going to be cheap at all and will cost a good amount.

...hopefully amazon will have a 50% off sale or something where we can get it cheaper - I bought the DVD version @ Sam's Club for like $47.

Hopefully they can fit it on less BD discs then they did with the standard DVD release. If they can do that then maybe it won't be $150 but more around the $100 mark. I would definately double dip for this series in Blu.

It's already out on HD DVD... in Japan. Judging from the screen shots, it's an excellent transfer. I'm not positive, but it could very well be the same transfer broadcast on HBO HD. If that's the case, then there's a good way to benchmark HD Cable/Satellite vs physical media.

On the other hand, it will probably be really splitting hairs (and a VERY high end setup) to tell the difference between HD & BR.

Anyone up for watching 12 hours of HD DVD?
