Default A 1812 story.

The Telarc Stereo-only SACD is from the original 1979 Soundstream 50kHz (as opposed to CDs 44.1kHz) recording. If you had the Lp made from the first lacquer master made (A-11 by Stan Ricker) those cannon shots blew most cartridges out of the turntable literally! The low frequencies of the cannon shot pressure wave go all the way down to 6Hz (Yes, six Hz, not a typo ) You can see the blast and the following 6Hz wiggle in the grooves with the unaided eye:

(There was a subsequent pressing (A12) which lowered the levels and shaved the bass to prevent styluses skating all the way to Antartica at the finale. (I have both pressings))

Maybe I should set the SACD as the alarm clock sound this Sunday.
