Oh, geez, Paramount. Please, respect your library and do a proper remaster and fresh scan. You harm your reputation when you put out substandard releases.

This is a charming film and deserves some TLC. Thank you.

I don't have the old DVD, but it sure looks better than the 720p version floating around the web

And to those who appreciate it, here's Barbra singing the title song at 70 years old:

I just got around to the informative review (thanks Mr. Kauffman!), but it's a shame this didn't get more care. Judging by the number of posts in this thread it probably won't be a huge seller.

If Paramount was serious about making sales, they wouldn't do it as a MOD release, but put it out like they are doing with their Tom Cruise or John Travolta titles. If this was in a stack for sale at a Walmart or Target, there are plenty of people who would throw a Barbra Streisand disc into their cart with their groceries. Of course they aren't doing a great job even with those other titles - only Top Gun showed up at my local Walmart, I had to go to a smaller shop to see a physicsl copy of Urban Cowboy. But pretty much every copy of Top Gun was gone within the week at the Walmart. (I live in an area with almost no virus, so shops like Walmart never closed)

Finally got my copy from wowhd in the mail, and watched this yesterday. It definitely is the same master used for the 2005 dvd, but strange I never noticed all the speckling & print damage when I watched that in the past. Maybe it wasn't as noticeable in SD. In comparison to the dvd, this is more watchable now on a newer TV, but that's about as good as I can say for picture quality.
I did notice the sound is nicer on the blu-ray.
What struck me most on rewatching this film, are some of the thematic similarities between this and Minnelli's last film, starring his daughter, A Matter of Time. You have shifts in time & grand dames in period costume contrasted with modern girls of more modest means.
I have some dvd-r of the latter film off of Amazon. I know it is a bit of a trainwreck, but it would be nice if some company had the courage to put it out on blu-ray.

Could you link that dvd-r please?
I had the original VHS but I've misplaced it, and have read terrible reviews about some semi-official releases from Europe and maybe your version is the best choice at the moment?

Wasn't this a burned disc. It looks like perhaps a pressed disc is now available.

There's definitely a pressed disc now but both are using the same UPC 0032429339041 which is very unfortunate.

Fake Blu-ray™ with no Blu-ray logo.

Real licensed Blu-ray™ with logo on cover & case.

I think it's always been a pressed disc. I bought mine in 2020 and the disc is pressed. I'm not sure why this is listed under as a new release at moviezyng. It must of went out of print for a bit or something.
