The Oscars aren't really about the best movies and performances anymore.

Saw this the other day and really enjoyed it. Diane Lane was amazing and I hope she gets nominated.

Finally saw this. Really enjoyed it. Costner and Lane make a wonderful screen couple. All of the performances are outstanding. Nice supporting work from Lesley Manville and Jeffrey Donovan and of course, Costner and especially Lane are terrific.

I really hope she is a dark horse this season. There's still plenty of time to build more buzz for her.
I hope so disco1979 - I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said there. She is so underrated - but highly regarded in the industry. Maybe her peers and fellow thesps, producers etc will vote for her (regardless of GoldDerby etc giving her the unjustified cold-shoulder). She really is deserving for 'LET HIM GO'.

Yeah, the more I think of what Tom at GoldDerby said about her really pisses me off. What sh*tty and dick thing to say. Jerk.

Couldn't agree more. Diane Lane has been overlooked and underrated most of her career... and this kind of 'dismissal' by Tom etc at Gold Derby really doesn't help. As Disco says... hopefully her BRILLIANT performance in this BRILLIANT film will rise above that and still get her (and the movie) some recognition and attention.

P.S. Anybody know how much influence these Awards sites like Gold Derby actually have anyway?

Yes, it's a genuinely terrific film. I think it's a shame so many (here on this forum) and in general are dismissing it as an 'old persons movie'.
I agree, I'm 22 and this was a intense gripping thriller. Slow enough to build up the story properly and develop the characters, but not a slog. And when it gets violent, it gets pretty harsh (it earns that R rating by the climax without getting gratuitous). However character focused thrillers are niche in this day and age now, which sucks, as many good ones are often left in the dust by most.

Yes, I agree. Really great character focused thrillers are niche today.
It is what it is. Glad you enjoyed the movie. We need more of these kinds of films I think.

Great movie Diane Lane was a force truly one of the great performances in any year. Kevin Costner so understated yet with so much depth he was great. and what more is there to say about Lesley Manville what a psychotic performance, truly scary.

I agree with the previous post that movie awards are a joke especially the Academy Awards but all three at the very least deserve a nomination.

Agree with both of you here. I saw the movie almost a week ago and it has really stuck with me. I cannot get it out of my mind.

So many people who've seen have said that. It's very memorable and affecting. I honestly think that if enough people see 'LET HIM GO' it will become something of a classic (and a well remembered and celebrated) film. The reviews are great and the performances are truly awards worthy in every respect. Diane Lane was totally mesmerising and heartbreaking in it.

Isn't that the truth. He's carved out quite a third act for his career.

Can I say how much I love the scene in the restaurant before they return to the hotel? The story Lane tells, and Lane is so beautiful, radiant and mesmerizing in it. And the way Costner looks at her. They've been together so long but you still see the love in his eyes for her.

Such a beautiful scene.

Never mind that. What about the scene in the motel room after that violence occurred where Lane was holding Costner (crying) and said "What have I done to you!?". Just heartbreaking. This film moved me on so many levels. And yes, it brought me to tears too a few times.

Both of those scenes and several others are amongst the BEST acting and emotion I've seen in any film (period) let alone this year. You are so invested in these characters and you care so much what happens to them.

I've seen nothing but great reviews again today... especially for Diane Lane's heartbreakingly brilliant performance... and still no movement on any of the Oscar prediction sites. She's deffo being locked out

Still... it is a great movie... that I'm sure will eventually find a sizable audience (through great word of mouth) like 'The Thing', 'Shawshank Redemption' etc and those other great movies that acquired their fame after their theatrical release.
