4. Press "Play" to start the game.

※Please switch to "Go Offline" every time you play this title.
※Please be aware that once the upgrade patch has been applied, the game cannot be restored to the previous version even if the game is uninstalled.

That they have to write that message at the bottom kind of speaks to the bullshittery of automatic updates. My PC was already struggling. Give me a list of all the updates and let me choose how far to apply. It's not a multiplayer game. There will be no balancing issues caused by letting the player update what they want. They wouldn't even have to host all the old updates themselves; they could do it in a way that allows fans to archive and host the old ones for other fans.

Still disappointed they had Dolby Atmos for RE2 and then dropped it for RE3 and presumably all future Capcom games. Seems like all the major publishers figured out 98 percent of players use headphones, TV speakers and soundbars, which is why Sony built their whole PS5 sound engine around headphones. The positioning and sense of space of 3D audio are not better than actual surround sound. It still just sounds like stereo in nearly all cases.

It is better when an update is a choice, rather than connecting online to PS Store and then PS5 starts updating games I don't even want updated, forcing a manual cancel of unwanted updates each and every time I connect online to visit the store.
Some games aren't worth updating.

For PC though, I can imagine that would be frustrating if the new update keeps prompting but the hardware isn't able to handle it.

That's true, 3D sound is a fancy way of Sony saying "surround stereo sound". Sound from different areas in the dual headphones or speakers, to different degrees.

Apparently, some Steam games let you opt into different versions. Capcom could have done it like that if they cared. The way Capcom did it is really unpopular with Steam users, looking at all the threads on the forum there. As I expected. People complaining about being forced to use DX12 now (for DX11 supposedly ran a lot better), some going through complicated steps to downgrade, one suggesting refunds. Who could have guessed?

I wish they added a 3rd person view to RE7 too, not just RE8, to match the 3rd person views of RE2 and RE3. RE1 remake was more traditional with still cameras I believe.

Is there no free upgrade if you got RE7 from the PS Plus collection? I see an upgrade option for RE2 but it tells me I own another version of RE7 with no option to upgrade

They mentioned if you have the PS+ there will be no free upgrade.


That's the way FF7 was for a bit but they changed their tune eventually and gave it as a free update so who knows.

Yes FF7. I dont see the PS5 upgrade as free. Guess it was shortlived

Shocking that the PSN Store on the PS5 has the file sizes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 way off. 40-some GBs for 2 and 60-some for 3. Just a bit off judging by those screenshots.

As for the difference, they all run at 60 FPS. I'm not sure what the resolution is, but I'm sure Digital Foundry will get on that sometime in the near future. There's also ray tracing, but I wouldn't expect the games to run at a smooth 60 then.

Really weird…I have no RE2 PS5 free upgrade offer. I was able to easily claim PS5 upgrades for RE3 and RE7, both of which I own digitally. For RE2, I own the disc and the only option is to purchase for 39.99. Anyone else experience this?

I think I figured out my issue. The disc version of RE2 Remake was received as a gift and is the Europe version (PEGI rating on cover). I hadn't really noticed this before as all PS4 games are region free and there was no other references in game. The bottom line is that it looks like you can't upgrade versions between regions, which makes sense. I went ahead a bought a used copy for $10 and am looking forward to revisiting the upgraded PS5 version.

Weirdly, on Amazon, it appears that the European version comes up as the first purchase option when doing a search for the game, so it looks like it could be pretty easy "mistake" if an non-gamer is purchasing a gift for a gamer in their life.

I've all 3 RE games in digital form. RE2 and RE3 now show as PS5. RE7 downloaded something but still shows as PS4. So... does it categorize itself as PS5 like the others?
