They also said to head over to the Exoprimal website to register for the BETA and there's nothing there. I'd give it a bit.

Yeah the key was to wait 10 minutes because it's available to upgrade now.

Very big for someone with a 1.2 TB bandwidth cap. Comcast are crooks.

An upgrade patch will be releasing soon and system requirements will also be updated.

【Update on system requirements】
The system requirements will change with the arrival of the upgrade patch. The new minimum requirements are listed below alongside the previous specifications no longer supported under this upgrade patch.

Minimum requirements:
■OS
Before:WINDOWS® 7, 8.1, 10 (64-BIT Required)
After:WINDOWS® 10 (64-BIT Required)

■DirectX
Before:Version 11
After:Version 12

■Graphics
Before:
NVIDIA® GeForce® GeForce GTX 760
or AMD Radeon™ R7 260x
After:
NVIDIA® GeForce® GeForce GTX 960
or AMD Radeon™ RX 460

【How to toggle automatic updates OFF】
Follow the following steps before the patch goes live.

1. Right-click the title under your Library, and select "Properties..."
2. In the "UPDATES" tab, change Automatic Updates to "Update only when I launch it"
3. Press "Steam" in your steam client, and select "Go Offline"
4. Press "Play" to start the game.

※Please switch to "Go Offline" every time you play this title.
※Please be aware that once the upgrade patch has been applied, the game cannot be restored to the previous version even if the game is uninstalled.
That they have to write that message at the bottom kind of speaks to the bullshittery of automatic updates. My PC was already struggling. Give me a list of all the updates and let me choose how far to apply. It's not a multiplayer game. There will be no balancing issues caused by letting the player update what they want. They wouldn't even have to host all the old updates themselves; they could do it in a way that allows fans to archive and host the old ones for other fans.

Ray tracing and new 3D sound.

Still disappointed they had Dolby Atmos for RE2 and then dropped it for RE3 and presumably all future Capcom games. Seems like all the major publishers figured out 98 percent of players use headphones, TV speakers and soundbars, which is why Sony built their whole PS5 sound engine around headphones. The positioning and sense of space of 3D audio are not better than actual surround sound. It still just sounds like stereo in nearly all cases.

Hopefully the games got a resolution boost to 4K with 60 fps.

It is better when an update is a choice, rather than connecting online to PS Store and then PS5 starts updating games I don't even want updated, forcing a manual cancel of unwanted updates each and every time I connect online to visit the store.
Some games aren't worth updating.

For PC though, I can imagine that would be frustrating if the new update keeps prompting but the hardware isn't able to handle it.

That's true, 3D sound is a fancy way of Sony saying "surround stereo sound". Sound from different areas in the dual headphones or speakers, to different degrees.

Is there no free upgrade if you got RE7 from the PS Plus collection? I see an upgrade option for RE2 but it tells me I own another version of RE7 with no option to upgrade

They mentioned if you have the PS+ there will be no free upgrade.

That's the way FF7 was for a bit but they changed their tune eventually and gave it as a free update so who knows.

Are you sure about that? I never heard it and I checked and the upgrade is $20

Shocking that the PSN Store on the PS5 has the file sizes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 way off. 40-some GBs for 2 and 60-some for 3. Just a bit off judging by those screenshots.

As for the difference, they all run at 60 FPS. I'm not sure what the resolution is, but I'm sure Digital Foundry will get on that sometime in the near future. There's also ray tracing, but I wouldn't expect the games to run at a smooth 60 then.

Ray Tracing yep.

Forgot to mention this,

High Framerate Mode 120hz
Native VRR Support

I wish they added a 3rd person view to RE7 too, not just RE8, to match the 3rd person views of RE2 and RE3. RE1 remake was more traditional with still cameras I believe.

Rumor is that RE9 will be in 3rd person instead of first, so they may add it to 7 at some point down the road (I think the chances are slim though.) That would be perfect actually, default 3rd person and first person view for VR.

Apparently, some Steam games let you opt into different versions. Capcom could have done it like that if they cared. The way Capcom did it is really unpopular with Steam users, looking at all the threads on the forum there. As I expected. People complaining about being forced to use DX12 now (for DX11 supposedly ran a lot better), some going through complicated steps to downgrade, one suggesting refunds. Who could have guessed?

Thanks. Yeah, that sounds like a bad deal from Capcom.

Reminds me a little bit of when Ubisoft tried forcing PC gamers online at all times for single player only games with no online elements for the gameplay. They might still be doing that these days, though I heard Ubisoft is in financial trouble possibly.

At least they listen to their fans. Sometimes.

June 15th:

DirectX 11 Non-Ray Tracing Version Now Available

Hello Resident Evil fans,

Due to overwhelming community response, we've reactivated the previous version that does not include ray tracing and enhanced 3D audio. Both enhanced and previous versions will be made available going forward.

Please follow the steps below if you wish to roll back to the previous version.

1. Click LIBRARY in Steam client.
2. Right-click the game and select ""Properties...""
3. In the pop-up menu, select ""BETAS""
4. From the pull-down menu, select ""dx11_non-rt"" (Note: password not required)
5. Close the pop-up menu and let the Steam client auto-update the game
6. You should be able to launch the game normally once the update completes
7. Please note some of the in-game option settings will be reset as a result of the rollback process.

If you would like to update the game to the new version again, simply select ""None"" from the pull-down menu in Step 4 above.

Resident Evil Team
RE3 and 7 can now be downgraded as well.

Tested,

Resident Evil 2 Remake
Resident Evil 3 Remake
Resident Evil 7
Resident Evil 8

Dunno where 3rd person mode is in RE8 unless i mistook it for coming soon.

Anywhoo,

RE2, RE3, RE7 all have 3 performance options.

Ray Tracing @ 50fps.
No Ray Tracing @ 60fps.
120hz Mode @ 115fps.

RE8 just has the first 2 modes. Nothing changed other then the addition of Native VRR support. So playing in RT mode should be smoother at 50fps.

Also the upgrades to RE2, RE3, RE7 all run at around 1440-1600 in 120hz. So if you have a capable TV that can do VRR & HDR, all 3 games run excellent with very very minimal input lag.
