Funnily enought, War of the Colossal Beast was originally co-billed with Attack of the Puppet People.

I cataloged this in DVD Profiler and My Movies yesterday. I'll be scanning the cover art once I have it in hand as the back cover image I'm using is way too small.
As seen from My Movies for Windows Media Center... ![]() (Click on the image above to view my online profile for this title.) My copy just shipped. Scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Looking forward to watching this. Another DVD retired. Gotta love it! ![]() |

So sad about the health problems which plagued Allison Hayes during the last years of her life.

Ouch, I looked her up on wikipedia to see what you were talking about (apparently took some supplement for years that was full of lead which gave her leukemia - she fortunately spearheaded a movement that resulted in a ban on the sale of it) and then clicked on Yvette Vickers (body not found for a year after she died, decades of being a recluse!!). Well, now I'm sad.

She plays Honey Parker (the girlfriend) in Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. Another genre credit followed with Attack of the Giant Leeches. |

![]() ![]() Life is tough for Nancy Archer, a wealthy heiress played by Allison Hayes. She has spent time in a sanitarium because of emotional problems and alcoholism. Her husband, Henry, played by William Hudson, still goes through the motions of marriage because he yearns for control over Nancy's $50 million estate, but he is far more preoccupied with the affections of the local honky-tonk floozy, Honey Parker, played by Yvette Vickers. To make matters worse, nobody believes Nancy after she tells them about her fateful encounter with an alien spacecraft and its giant-size extraterrestrial occupant in the desert outskirts of town. Unbeknownst to those around her, however, Nancy's pent-up frustrations are about to explode in a larger-than-life way. Our heroine has been contaminated with radiation after her contact with the space creature, thus affecting her metabolism in a way that causes her to grow to a massive gargantuan size. As her husband and his lover dance at the local bar to celebrate their plans for taking her out of the picture and living the good life with her money, the 50 foot tall Nancy, who has pulled off a ravishing fashion statement with her makeshift outfit of white bedsheets, is rampaging across town to exact her heavy-handed revenge on all who have wronged her. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, especially when that woman stands tall enough to tear the roof off. The 1958 low-budget sci-fi horror extravaganza, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, directed by Nathan Juran (The 7th Voyage of Sinbad), is probably best known for its iconic poster art, which still makes waves in pop culture. The actual movie, which speeds by with a 66-minute run time, plays out over its first two thirds as a gleefully trashy film noir of sorts before finally getting down to the business of special effects mayhem. Allison Hayes, pin-up girl and B movie actress extraordinaire, is the main attraction here as the small town rich lady who figuratively has men in the palm of her hand before she turns into a giantess who, quite literally, has men in the palm of her hand. Yvette Vickers, whose brushes with oversized menaces would continue the following year with Attack of the Giant Leeches, is also a blast to watch because of her ruthlessly manipulative scheming. On the hotness scale, I find Hayes's 50-foot character to be a better-looking monster than Godzilla, King Kong, or even Rodan. In fact, I would go so far as to say that she is prettier than Mothra. Attack of the 50 Foot Woman may not quite live up to the promise of its amazing poster, but it still towers over other women-seeking-vengeance films of its era, even without high heels. This Warner Archive Blu-ray, thank goodness, features the above-mentioned poster art as its cover. The older audio commentary track with film historian Tom Weaver and Yvette Vickers is a blast of a listen. Last edited by The Great Owl; 12-18-2022 at 01:55 AM. |

Greetings to you all! Take a look at what finally arrived here at The Kitty Cat Condo™ courtesy of Amazon via the USPS. Yeah, my copy of Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman was supposed to get here a week ago, but my Amazon order got lost in the holiday shopping shuffle. After I received my refund I immediately placed a new order for this Warner Archive Blu-ray title and --WHALLA!-- it actually arrived today as promised.
![]() However, my cat, Chico, was very upset about this seven day delay and this made him drag out the 1993 remake (starring Daryl Hannah) last Saturday to get his giant woman fix. In addition, Chico is of the opinion that Daryl Hannah is the finest American actress since Lillian Gish. My other cat, Harpo, much prefers the 1958 original starring Allison Hayes -- as do I. So tonight we will all settle in for some classic Fifties science-fiction thrills featuring a giant beautiful woman. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
