A Blu-ray Disc player is supposed to play ALL discs even if they are Profile 1.1 and 2.0. They just won't be able to play the special features that are enabled for Profile 1.1 and 2.0 players, just the main feature which is the movie.

exactly. leaving it up to the consumer. Now, I understand that if FW updates are available and will play the new BD's and samsung simply wont supply them that there is a lawsuit. But if their older machines simply cant play them due to their hardware, it is no fault of samsungs at all but solely the fault of the consumer for not doing research or being AN EARLY ADOPTER OF NEW TECHNOLOGY.

I would still rather have a Samsung player than a Toshiba.

Are you serious? If I bought a HDTV and it didn't play some HD content, I would be mad. Is that the price you pay? If that is the philosophy, then most consumers won't buy in.

but a TV simply plays a received signal. players have to read and decode things that are constantly changing. Some HDTV's dont have built in HD. Should people now sue for this? or go get a freaking $10 HD antenna?

As I own a 1200. I did look in to other players @ the Time and This one with HQV and @ $6-$800 dollars. I was under the impression even though 1.0 it would still play all discs, just not future features that 1.1,2.0 could.

Hell this would be a sweeeet player if Samsung didn't make it.

It's the lack of support that I don't get from Samsung and if you own one then you know what I'm talking about. It's absolutely frustrating.

There was a lot of superior reviews of this player at the time.

Not all hdtv have a built in tuner so that antenna is still useless.

& I did do my research when I got my player months before the problems come about, but most of us Don't have a crystal ball.

Yeah my SS DLP has what I think excellent PQ.

BUTTTT it has been serviced 4 times and going on the 5th time as soon as service center calls me back.(parts on backorder) It's not me 3 different service centers straight out told me SS has put their grandchildren through college.

All three basically said they are getting tired of SS. So?????? I give up.

(that's excluding lamp replacement)

Well, if this is your first time. Welcome to early adoption I suppose. Life isn't fair.
