If you have the time and like to read, Pestone has several books including Donnie Brasco. Very good insight into the operation and on the Mafia in general.

That's a hard comparison.Though both great movies, they are totally different. Both should be a part of every film fanatic's library, but am getting Donnie first. It's a damn good story and I already have resevoir on SD.

Same here. I've actually owned a total of two copies of this film on standard DVD. I'd only get it on Blu if I found it at bargain bin prices. It's really a great film, but I'd like to add more HD titles I don't already own before I get too much into double dipping. Pacino and Depp really shine here, and it's one of my all time favorite gangster flicks along with Carlito's Way, Scarface, Casino, etc. If you don't already own it on DVD I'd highly recommend this title on Blu.

And speaking of gangster flicks, since I own this on VHS, Warner needs to get off their butt and give us a re-mastered New Jack City Director's Cut or something on Blu!

Looks great on Blu-ray. Plus you have great acting in the movie. Depp was great in this movie!

This movie is fantastic. They should have casted someone else as Sunny Black I think that would have made the movie better. This is not an elite mob movie but still worth watching. I would put Godfather 1 & 2, Goodfellas, Casino, and The Sopranos ahead of it.

Sorry to disagree with everyone here - but the so-called 'extended cut' sucks compared to the original/theatrical version. There must be a good reason they aren't labeling this a 'Director's Cut' because the extra scenes they inserted back in involve very lame dialogue, over-the-top acting, gratuitous violence (even within the context of the film's subject matter) and manage throw off the pacing of the film compared to the original version. I'm sure director Newell saw this as well and decided to take the scenes out.

It would be fine to include them as separate scenes in the Extras section - but that's not what is packaged here.

It is an outrage that they only offer this 'extended' cut on blu-ray and not the original version. They took a great film and made it mediocre.

Not a fan...I had been looking forward to this at the time as the papers were all hyping it as the best Pacino thing since Serpico. Unfortunately, it was not that good.

Yes. Very Much so. At $10.00 now on Amazon there is no reason not to get it. It also has fantastic PQ.

Agreed. This is one of those where I even made my own bboisvert uber-set™ by moving it to a 2-disc blu case and including the DVD SE. (Which is the shorter, theatrical edition and includes an audio commentary by the director.)

Best of both worlds. The BD was $10 and I got the SE DVD used for $4. Wins all around on this one. Great flick.
