Default Donnie Brasco and Revenge (May 8)

Quote:
Announcing newly-expanded versions of the hits 'Donnie Brasco' and 'Revenge' for the first time on home video, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will bring both releases to Blu-ray day-and-date with their standard-def DVD debuts.

Due on May 8, both 'Donnie Brasco: Extended Cut' and 'Revenge: Director's Cut' will feature 1080p/MPEG-2-encoded video transfers, plus uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround tracks.

'Brasco' will also include 20 minutes of additional footage, an audio commentary with director Mike Newell and the "Donnie Brasco: Out from the Shadows" featurette.

No supplemental details are yet known for 'Revenge,' but stay tuned.

Sony has set a $28.95 list price for each release.

ONe can only presume it's the Kevin Costner 1991 flick.

Very cool movie I thought and underrated.
I'll be picking this one up for sure as well.

Ooo, Tony Scott.

The Scott bros certainly are getting a good share of BD discs.

Revenge is an awesome flick, I still remember seeing that at the Theatre in Laughlin on a vacation with my parents as a kid (run on sentance, lol). I will definately be buying both of these, I haven't seen Donnie B, but i hear it's great!

I had never seen Revenge before last night. I was shocked that an action/drama movie that good could have gotten past me without me even knowing about it. The PQ and AQ are great. There were a few scenes where the camera was out of focus, but the rest is every bit as detailed as Donnie Brasco! If you don't have this title, it will surely enrich your BD collection.

Donnie Brasco is a superb movie and excellent PQ and AQ. Revenge is another story, it is a Director's cut and 24 minutes shorter and it is terrible!! The Studio version is far superior. I thought the PQ was awful, over staurated colors, not crisp, a many scenes are filled with excessive grain-save your money!

Wow! . Are you sure we were watching the same movie? I'm assuming you bought this title and watched it on a properly calibrated TV, right?

Yep, BDP-S1 thru HDMI at 1080/24p on a Samsung HL-S6187 DLP-excellent set-up just that the BLU-RAY Revenge-sucks. Yes, I did buy it, I love the movie, at least the original cut at 124 minutes. I think the intrusive grain was the most annoying factor i.e. when Costner first seduces Stowe the grain is so bad that it ruined the scene.

did you notice on a few dark scenes, like when Costner Boinks Madilyne Stowe in the Dressing room, that it gets this weird Screen door effect?
I had seen this on GridIron Gang before too. Is this some sort of compression artifact? The rest of the movie aside from this and a few other brief low light scenes looks great. Reminds me of the BS in Planet Earth, just not as bad or as frequent.

It's your DLP! That's what you get for snubbing the SXRD! HA!

Seriously, might be. Color wheel artifacts. Check the material on another type of 1080p display.

I saw what looks to be heavier than usual grain (as if that part was shot on 16mm film or something) in that scene. I don't believe they are compression artifacts.

I think it says on the bottom of the Planet Earth box that some of it wasn't shot in HD. I'm not well versed on the names of certain issues in video, but I have seen some artifacts in scenes I know was shot with a HD camera. I truly believe Planet Earth could have really benefited from Blu-ray's added bandwidth and space (I know I'm off subject a bit).

yes but this "Grain" has a grid line pattern to it, similar to graph paper. Look closer and you will see what I am talking about.

Sorry, I didn't see your post earlier. I didn't think the grain was that intrusive at all. I think We Were Soldiers was intrusive grain. To me that one scene was mildly disruptive to me.

Like I said before, I haven't heard of this title before it was on the BD release list. Therefore, I have no knowledge of a 124 min. version. For me, this was a complete virgin movie experience with this title. I walked in the title with no preconception notions and I enjoyed the director's overall vision. Could the movie have been shot better? Yes. But, was the movie shot better than this and we got a transfer that's not transparent to the master? I don't believe so. All I want is to be able to see and hear these movies just like they do at the major studios.
