This was watchable, the movie and the 3D. It doesn't touch the original Lilo and Stitch, in scale or depth (emotional or stereoscopic), but still it's a 2-hour vacation to Hawaii and Stitch's redemption arc is timeless.

The 3D is below Disney's standard. Objects looked flatter than appropriate, and there were several conversion errors, even some hazy outlines (which I haven't seen in a studio conversion in over 10 years). But with those caveats, the 3D still had its moments. Anything on or underwater looks great, and there's a handful or two of pop-outs. The film was originally developed for Disney+ and it really shows in how scaled down the action is. This is 23 min longer than the animated film but every action sequence (especially Stitch's escape, Stitch vs Jumba, and Stitch vs Gumba) is much shorter. So the 3D just didn't have much to work with, but it was still enjoyable in the moment.

The 3D trailershow was the highlight, especially Elio. That could give Avatar 3 a run for its money as best 3D of 2025.

I would disagree completely in regards to the emotional depth... the remake is light years ahead of the original in this regard. Having real human beings in the movie, and a much greater emphasis on the challenges they are facing in life (and the huge hole left in the sisters' lives by the death of their parents) comes across much more vividly and emotionally.

Also, there's the part near the end of the movie, which is different here, where Stitch
[Show spoiler] shows he is willing to sacrifice his own life to save Lilo...
and very nearly does. That absolutely has a lot of people crying. It's a real emotional roller-coaster ride, towards the end, and eventually you reach the very emotional ending and it is just completely cathartic. The last shot of the movie is just absolutely lovely...

I would disagree completely that "real human beings" alone make for greater emotional depth than animation. Animation is a beautiful medium. It has as much capacity to feel real as live-action does to feel fake. William Goldman himself said that Bambi was more realistic than The Deer Hunter.

I also didn't find the remake placed significantly greater emphasis on life's challenges compared to the original. I appreciated the performances of the Hawaiian cast, and the adjusted resolution for Nani (even if it's possible thanks to a very convenient family friend), but the original is still the film that introduced the cast and custody battle to begin with.

There are nuances of human expression that animation, no matter how good, simply could never hope to capture.

The movie makes the most of the fact that it’s a live-action movie and gives us an added sense of human warmth that the animated version, no matter how cute it is, simply could not even remotely begin to match.

Animation is great for a lot of things, to be sure, but not cannot replace actual human beings.

Movie was very flat and had bad dialog. Some parts were touching but overall I will not be watching it ever, again.

Bad writing is bad writing whether it's in a movie for kids or for adults - what's your point, kids will watch any old crap?

Some things work better in one medium though and not another. You can get away with Stitch being mistaken for a dog in animation but you need better writing to do it in live action. The film acknowledges the issue by disguising other alien characters but isn't smart enough to find a solution for Stitch. If you can't take a consistent approach to your scenario, that's bad writing.

I'm actually not sure there is any "bad dialog" in the movie, I've seen it four times so far and nothing really comes to mind that strikes me as being bad.

The one thing I know for sure is that all the kids I've ever seen in the theater really seem to be loving it!

I saw Lilo & Stitch in 3-D. For my money, it was essentially a bas-relief, and not a very good one at that.

I saw the picture on a screen approximately 35 feet wide and sat a similar distance away.

Most of the time, I felt I was watching a game of "Hide the Parallax." I observed several extended portions of Lilo & Stitch without glasses and could find precious little disparity on display in many shots. A fair number of scenes looked positively flat. But eventually, a shot would come along that exhibited something akin to proper relief. There were even a handful of instances of negative parallax with floating windows at the vertical edges, and these were a sight for bored eyes!

[Show spoiler]CGI scenes set on another planet or aboard a spaceship exhibited reasonably good stereoscopic space and volume.

I've seen coins that looked deeper than portions of this film.

Though it is not my usual cup of tea, I found Lilo & Stitch very enjoyable. I went to see it strictly for the sake of 3-D, and in that regard, I was disappointed. But I found the story suitably amusing, heartwarming, and entertaining. The cast is appealing, especially the 6-year-old lead, who is amazing and adorable-- possibly one of the best child actresses I have ever seen in any movie.

Never seen the original, without a 3D blu ray, I doubt I'll ever see this either.

Oh, yeah, she is adorable, hope she can still have a somewhat normal childhood despite being in one of the most popular movies ever...

Following debate on the merits of this studio 3D conversion vs a theoretical EYEPOP-3D version... here's the completely unofficial trailer conversion, just for fun...

Side-by-Side version also available on EYEPOP-3D's YouTube Channel.

Yes, but I never watched either of the movies and tv show, so I got curious about it being 626 (tomorrow is june 26th aka 626) and and found that.

What does it cost them to just include a 3D BluRay, or even 3D Digital download for movies that they already invested in converting for theatrical release?

The 3D version is live on Disney+ via Apple Vision Pro. The Apple TV app still only has the 2D version.
