who cares. it's a video game console. planning on putting it in an sealed box to stand the test of time? it's gonna end up in the trash in 10 years anyway.

why would anyone get a console signed like that? sentimental value? i honestly wonder about some people on this earth. if you want sentimental value find a girl and get her a card and never think about it again! video games are fun, but they shouldn't be a person's life (unless they design them)

some folk care a great deal about getting stuff signed, i would keep something if it were signed, granted it is only games, but thats not really the point, is it?

The point is, he demanded a unique service which was agreed upon and they screwed up or stole his case. Sentimental or not the guy has the right to be completely ****ed.

My guess is the tech that worked on it probably has a bunch of case parts laying around on his work station. Probably just grabbed the nearest ones and slapped it on the Xbox.

Somebody out there in a week or so is going to get a very nice surprise when they open their Xbox return package and see they now have a nice shiny autographed Xbox.

That sucks. Personally wouldn't have trusted any service to preserve the case, .

Has anyone here ever tried to remove sharpie from plastic? It's impossible. The chemichals that are needed to remove it, would melt that plastic in an instant.

It's too bad he didn't know about the 360s crappy record of quality or maybe he never would've risked getting it signed by so many people. To be honest, I never would've trusted mailing that off to them. Too much risk. If he really wanted to be sure (and actually like the 360 <shudder>) then he should have bought a new one and swapped the case. Yeah, it'd cost him more, but you can never trust something like that with a giant corporate thing. A local repairshop would be the only place you could hope for something like that to go well, and local shops don't do 360s.

3 - NOBODY on earth would take the time to wipe that machine clean. The 360 plastic is textured. There would be BIG evidence of a wipe down. The chemicals needed to clean that machine to remove the ink, would have permanently damaged the plastic or discolored it. There would even be "rub strokes" on it.

It does not add up. Sorry - I don't feel sorry for this person. I also don't believe it.

Also, look at the first 2 pics and then the last one showing the "ink smudge". First pics show NO INK in that area. Hmm.

I agree 100%

First.... The background, and accompanying letter seem too well structured, especially if this is some kid...... If you were to write a letter, you wouldn't point out who the signatures were etc.

Also, if you were concerned enough to write the letter, call, etc. etc. you'd just get a new one, and tear it apart, and replace the casing with your precious signed one (I'm not a gamer, but prominent members of the gaming community about made me shoot coffee out of my nose!!! ha! )

I bet there are no other pictures of it... and you know he'd take a picture of the robot guy (whatever that is) right after it was done... .BEFORE all the other signatures were on it... or he'd certainly have pictures of it with some, but without others.....

Plus, this is a BLOG.... There are so many people that are mad at Microsoft because their XBOX's took a crap on them, someone might just be trying to further tarnish their reputation out of spite.... They came up with this plan to scribble on this thing, take pictures, and then invent "Nathanial" the poor young kid, who just loves microsoft oh-so-much....

BS meter is maxed out... sorry.

Thumbs down Thumbs down for Microsoft.

It's my guess it is repair policy to return the item cleaned akin to a "refurb" model.

In this case, no one cared to read that letter. If they did read it, they jealously rubbed off the history from this machine. I hope this story gets more press. This just shows how arrogant Microsoft is. "We want all the cases to look the same. You should not have writing on the case. It looks bad for us when people see your machine." I would almost guarantee that is what happened.

He should have taped large sheets of paper on the case which read. "DO NOT CLEAN THE OUTSIDE!" A letter was not good enough.

But no one at Microsoft will admit why it happened. They will simply be in a position where they have to admit they "followed procedure". There would be little to no compensation to this guy for his fandom and loss.

This will have BIG backlash on Microsoft. It is historically proven that when companies don't apologize and compensate, but rather give a BS excuse, the general public begins to REALLY hate them. In contrast, Disney replaced all the POTC: TCOTBP blu-rays for FREE, thus admiting the old ones had framing issues. Mine included. I am happy and my love for Disney not only remains, but is bolstered by their honesty and willingness to make customers happy.

My 20 year old Master system is still hooked up

Microsoft will probably just send him a new console signed and drawn on by the Halo team or something

It doesn't make much sense that anyone would be paid to waste time wiping permanent marker off a customer's case.

Assuming it's true,
I didn't even think it was possible to get your personal xbox back in return.

Considering the number of units that get shipped for repair per day.
I figured once the shipment was processed,
a refurbed unit from a wherehouse was shipped in replacement.

I know I received a different unit in return.
Can't speak for anyone else though.

that sucks but is not surprising, and its not because MS is the devil i feel bad for the dude whose job it is to clean off the darn thing before they get shipped out, and i am sure seeing this thing covered in marker was the highlight of his day.

It was crappy of them to do but if it were me I would have driven to the store and bought a new unit instead of trusting someone not to mess up something so important to me.
