Thats Petrol, Diesel is slightly more expensive.
It's mostly taxes, isn't it? Brent crude isn't many times more expensive than other crude, so the base constituent is about the same cost all over. And it doesn't have the transport costs like oil to the US.

Gasoline is about $1.05 a litre here. 3.96 litres per US gallon -> $4.16 a US gallon (currencies are about par nowdays). But, there are 30%-40% taxes in that.

For those who are concerned with the price of gas, they certainly shouldn't have I-Phones!

It's just rough, and I appologize, but I was just venting a little.... My wife is a physician at a small family clinic that treats a predominantly un-insured population. We spend money on certain things we enjoy, everyone does, but just a few weeks ago she was telling me about seeing a young girl, who was in there, paying on the "sliding scale" so her entire visit was $5 or so, but she had an I-Phone...... my wife was just mystified at why this girl, with no insurance, on public assistance, would have an I-Phone.

I was just trying to say, if prices of gas were putting that big of a strain on your budget, you probably shouldn't have jumped into HD yet, be it Blu-Ray, or a $3,000 television.....

I guess I was raised with conservative values, and was taught at an early age to SAVE SAVE SAVE...... My parents still scoffed at me when they visited us, and saw the T.V. and other stuff..... my parents were actually disappointed because they raised me to know better.

I'm sure if people wanted to they could max out credit cards for Blu-Rays.... it's your right to do so I guess, so have fun..... I've gotta save, because it always rains when you're least prepared.

As of last year it was around 80% of the price was tax..

EDIT: So around $6.80 in tax per gallon..

Your parents are right. For the most part people are whining that their luxuries are costing them too much.

Not everyone can do it, but a heck of a lot of people could use public transit, if their own selfish reasons for driving were examined.

Certainly more than one person per car should be doable. All those people on the road are going the same direction as you, and none of you could travel together?

^^^ I live and work in downtown Toronto. By choice.

I bike to work 9-10 months a year, and take transit the rest of the time.

I have a very short commute now (used to be 60 miles EACH direction....) so I drive in the winter, but Bike it, or jump on the little "community circulator" thing in the summer. Even at 14MPG, if I ONLY went to work/back, I could get by on filling up on the mid-grade once every 3 weeks.... but It takes me the same amount of time to Bike to work...... maybe adds 5 minutes.... but not much anyways.

I don't do it necessarily to save money, and I'm obviously not an environmental nut, otherwise I'd buy a fuel efficient vehicle..... I just do it because it really doesn't make sense to drive to work.....

There ARE other cities out there with good public transportation...... but I do agree that Europe has their ducks in a row..... could be due to the $8+ gallons of gas..... Hmm??????

The main thing high gas prices are cutting into is my driving. I've been doing a lot more to consolidate trips and even use my 24-speed trail bicycle for some errands.

Overall, I fill up my pickup truck once a month. If gasoline hits $4 a barrel, I'm going to choose to drive even less.

I hope more and more people will do something similar to what I'm doing on driving conservatively. Oil prices are already way past any justification by market fundamentals. Greedy speculators are the ones pushing up prices further and further in the futures markets. If demand for gasoline really starts dropping those greedy bastards will lose a fortune. That would be fine my me. Anyone buying into oil futures at this point has to be crazy.

No, I do not pay for gas.

The high prices of Blu-ray discs are keeping me from buying new Blu-rays.

I guess it does affect me in a very minimal way, but only by 2 discs/year.

My car gets close to 40mpg so I don't worry about it too much.

(I hate spending a lot for gas.)

Yes, the price of gas does have an impact on my overall budget.

However, if I buy a Blu-ray and watch it at home, instead of driving to some other "event", I'm actually saving money!!!

Well, I would have to watch lots of movies to make a difference, but you get the idea
