Sorry I didn't report on my card sooner. The 8800 GTX in my system is pretty quiet. I can only hear it when I take the side off and put my ear next to it. It's hard to know exactly how quiet or loud it is though since the 1000W PSU is the dominant noise factor in my system. Initially I was using 8800 GTX SLI and had to go with a louder than I'd like PSU. I really need to take that out now that I'm not using SLI but I dread having to re-run/organize all the cables again.
Anyway, be sure to double-check reviews/comments on whatever card and brand you decide to go with. Sometimes, the noise-level isn't quite what you'd expect. For example, the GT level cards are usually pretty close to the GTX/Ultra (top-end card) performance-wise but often are single slot designs. This has lead to some of GT-level cards actually causing more noise than the high-end cards b/c they had to use high rpm fans to cool them. I haven't checked to see if that has been an issue with the 8800 series or not though but it is something that has happened in the past. Last edited by owa; 04-19-2008 at 07:24 PM. |

I've got an 8800GT SSC with a Arctic Cooling S1 (passive) and it is SILENT. I don't game very much to be honest, but the card works well.

I will have to look into that for sure. if the card is too noisy, I think I'll try that its not too pricey, 32 bucks on their site |

I have had the EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX KO ACS3 768MB for around a year and a half now and there is nothing it can't run as of yet, but when that day comes i will get another one
![]() It run very quiet, it’s just the rest of the fans on my case that’s making all the noise ![]() |
