While in all likelihood it is a continuity error, as they couldn't reshoot everything, it doesn't have to be viewed as such. The guy could've just remodeled.

I liked both versions of Superman II; the theatrical version and the version that Dick Donner envisioned. And the BDs of Superman and Superman 2 looked good considering the source material for Superman the Movie is 30 years old and the other is over 20 years old.

All I know is that the theatrical cut of Superman II is balls. The Donnor Cut is better, but I totally believe that if things were allowed to go as planned with the second one's ending, they would both be better films because of it.

I think the Payback thing isn't so much a big deal, but I think the Director's Cut rapes the theatrical cut to death. But the original plot thread of having all 3 out of 3 would have been much better. Making Mel live sucked alot of the life out of the movie. Kris Kristofferson and the blue tint just murdered it though.

In my world I have just canned the first 4 Superman movies since Superman Returns came out. Superman Returns is a remake of the first Superman Movie minus the world reversal turn back time ending. So many scenes in this movie match the first movie. Too many to list here... So as I said I've just ditched all 4 of the first movies and have accepted that Superman Returns is far superior to any of the first movies. I hear Bryan Singer is coming out with the next Superman movie in 2009. His words are and I quote" I'm going all Wrath of Khan with the next Superman movie!" Can't wait to see it....

Batman Begins is like Superman Returns (which Batman Begins is a superior movie to Superman Returns...). I ditched all the prior Batman movies as Batman Begins is superior.... I don't have to say any more than that. Can't wait to see Dark Knight...

When Superman Returns was coming out, Singer said it was going to something of a sequel to the first two . . . which I was excited about. When I saw it and it was more of a remake, I was kind of disappointed, as there really wasn't a lot of new material there, just the same stuff with new special effects. While I do enjoy Superman Returns, I was hoping it would be a continuation of the first two originals with references to the events of those movies. I'm very much looking forward to Man of Steel, as hopefully it'll be its own movie this time with a lot more action.

Obviously you haven't seen it then

Because it's the Superman 3 we should have gotten. It followed the old movies as it should. Why remake Superman? It was done perfectly the first time

Is there still no word on the Ultimate Collection on Blu-Ray? I've got the standard def UC, and Superman Returns on Blu-Ray, and wanna pick up I and II on Sept. 18, but not if they're gonna release the UC in high def later.

Default Difference in Superman 2: Donner cut

Is the Donner cut that much different from the original release of this movie?
Just curious.

It's a more serious film, darker tone.

Almost the entire central plot revolves around the Marlon Brando scenes that were cut out--
And which made Supe come off as whinier and more self-pitying, but at least we get a more rational early-draft script explanation for that "Turning the world back" bit in the first movie.

I was wondering if that was worth getting. Without giving away any spoilers is it better than the original theatrical version?

Honestly, I didn't think it was that much different, or better--only the PQ wasn't as good in those segments because they weren't fully finished versions of the scenes. I thought that they'd utilized a good deal of what Donner was going to do in the finished film. It's nice to have both versions, though, IMHO--I just wouldn't buy it in Blu at this point; but then I wouldn't buy the first in Blu at this point, either. (That's just me.)

If you're a fan, it's different enough to justify a purchase, especially during a B1G1 sale.

Thanks. There are plenty of titles I want to get first. I really liked the theatrical version of Superman 2. If it doesn't significantly improve the film I can wait for the original or a combo with both versions.
