not that i am backing walmart or anything but the idea of walmart is to offer the average joe a piece of the pie as well, so to speak. They are not going to stock high end anything because most people are looking for value rather than the ultra high end $3000 lcd or plasma. I am not a wal mart fan but i do appreciate that they try to bring next gen electronics into the reach of the average american household

My Wal-mart barely has any Blu-rays. They're all $30, no lower and no higher. Plus they have a 10:30 ratio. Wal-mart sucks.

in regards to the 10:30 ratio...lets go back to right before xmas...wally world was selling hd dvd players for less than $100..they know that they moved a shit load of players during that time. The format is dead now but they know that a lot of their customer base, bought a hd dud! So it would only make sense for them to still stock the hd dvd's so that the people who did by from them can still get some movies. Obviously when the hd dvd are gone they are gone...like i said before, until blu ray gets a mass adoption wal mart will not carry blu rays, in their eyes there will not be enough people buying them to warrant taking up selling space

Well, Walmart has never had a good selection of anything; that's why their prices are a little lower in order to attract customers. Most of all, Walmart isn't a good place if you're shopping for electronics.

I work at the Wally World. The rep that stocks dvd's and blu-rays said most stores would be expanding from 4 feet of blu's to 8 ft end of May beginning of June. She said the store I work at would be expanding to 8 feet. The more wide the format is used the more it will expand she said.

I only buy from them if I can't find a deal cause I use my discount. Most of the time I can find a deal somewhere else thou that is much greater than my discount.

Also in my store they put the spider tags(anti theft device) on the cases and you can't even see the front of the box. So that really sucks.

I just don't imagine a lot of Wal*Mart customer's are in the "Blu-Market" and the ones who are, are going there to get a Blu, and get out..... I won't go there, so I don't know about their selection.

When I went back to the section they were in, they were all gone. Not one single one. I searched and searched for them only to stumble upon them in the clear case the overstock games went into. When I asked what was going on with their Blu-ray section, they advised they are no longer giving the HD formats (since they still were carrying a couple of HD-DVD's)high traffic shelf space and they will be carrying new releases but will not be continuously stocking catalog titles and those titles that have been out for a while. I couldn't believe it, and got the same reply from the other WM as well. Has anyone else had this happen to their WM?
i've noticed they only carry recent titles
makes me want to boycott wal-mart

All of the Wal-Marts in Jacksonville, FL have pitiful Bu-ray selections. They don't even have shelf space set aside for them, only one four-sided center aisle floor dispaly which is mostly signage. Bad, just bad.

Just as someone else has posted, I can't recall ever buying a bluray disk at Walmart. Their selection just plain sucks. Its either Amazon or Best Buy for the movies I don't want to wait two days for. The Walmart near me (Spring, Tx.) was just reopened as this big brand new design, the Future of all Wal Marts !!! and they have maybe 10 blu titles stuffed in a corner. Future for Wallyworld maybe, but not a future place for me to shop..

At all Wal-Mart locations in the Niagara region, Ontario, there are plenty of Blu-ray titles to pick from.

Two Wal-Mart Supercenters in Lawton carry Blu-ray movies. The problem is the selection just isn't very large. Each store has perhaps a couple or so dozen different BD movie titles and a handful of HD-DVD movies in a separate locked glass case next to locking glass cases holding new DVD releases.

Wal-Mart doesn't even stock "mid-fi" home theater equipment. You can't buy separate home theater components there, such as a halfway decent audio-video receiver. Same goes for separate speaker systems. If someone wants a crappy $99 "home theater in a box" solution, Wal-Mart has more of that kind of thing.

I don't think it is any problem at all for Wal-Mart to avoid stocking Blu-ray players other than the Playstation 3. Wal-Mart is definitely not going to be the avenue that Blu-ray uses to break into the mainstream.

For higher quality electronics most people know well enough they're not going to find what they want at Wal-Mart. They know they have to travel to stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, Frys or independent dealers of good quality electronics. Most will go to those types of stores to look for Blu-ray instead of looking at Wal-Mart.

That's because the players cost only $100. When the same players went back up to $199 they gathered dust on store shelves.

Like I said, they backed the wrong format and are now being stubborn about it. As for the "waiting for it to go mainstream" comment.....you need to have product to sell the product...to make it mainstream...if you are the #1 retail chain in the USA you control it. All the other stores Walmart is in competition with for sales were smart enough to dump HD-DVD stock and expand their blu sections over a month ago and Walmart is waiting until (my source) the end of June to do the same? Seriously weak management decision making, must have some serious turnover and nobody has spine enough to step up a say what needs to be said.

It's probably just your locations.

Both of our Wal -marts have about 70-80 Blu's in stock with a nice variety of box sets, all ranging from 14.99 to the sets at around 60$.

I agree, I wouldnt buy my TV from there, they only have one 1080p TV at my store. All the BDs there have been locked up from the start and the cabinet stays full. They did sell out of I am Legend. I bought all the NCFOM and DIRL with the coupons to resell. Made a few bucks.

I have noticed the stickers WM has been placing on items that say if you see this item for sale any other place than WM, please call 1-800 WALMART and report it. I cant tell if the sticker can be removed as its behind the glass

DVD may be seen as a better proposition to fill shelves because they can turn more items and make a profit even with low margins. In case of blu-ray they need higher margins to justify shelf space. However, strategically, it will be beneficial for them to stock blu-ray and at least show the market that they are one of technology leaders.
