Default Blu-ray lockdown at my Wal-Mart

The Wal-Mart nearest me has all their Blu-ray titles (all 12 or so of them) locked up behind glass like they do video games. I live in just a typical small town. Why the big special security? Is it like that all over the country?

I live in pretty big city and my local walmart also keeps them locked up behind the glass cases, i just figured it was in a ghetto area and people were stealing them.

That's weird, my wal-mart has their two titles right out in the open.

It basically means too many Blu-rays were disappearing from inventory and they wanted to put a stop to it. I've seen Wal-Marts where virtually every dvd was behind a case.

They have them locked up where I live in all the Walmarts. I have around 5 or 6 near me.

They probably expect it to be a high shrink (theft) item. Even is small or "safe" towns, Walmart is still a high theft store.

Blus are small and easily concealed with a high SRP, makes them big targets of shoplifters

That's the one big downside of the more compact packaging

No lockdown at my Wal-mart. When I wen't to the beach, that Wal-mart had the flashing security tags on theirs though. Had to wait for someone with the freaking unlock device to come to the front and remove it .

One Wal-Mart near me has them locked up as well. The other keeps them in the back of the store (employees only) so you have to ask if they carry a particular title on blu.

I don't even have a case to lock my Blu-rays up so I have to keep them in the back. I tried putting them out in the open and they all got stolen. Damn people steal them and sell them at flea markets. They'll be locked up in a case soon, though. What can I say? People suck.

If you have to steal a 25 dollar movie, or anything else for that matter, do everyone a favor and shoot yourself. I love people that can only contribute to society by making it worse...

My local WM only carried X-men 3 in the glass case with the other PS3 games for the longest time...now they've got a good selection, and they're out on an endcap with the HDs, where I can pick them up and look at them. At first, they had equal BR and HD, but now it's mostly BR. But yeah, no lock-down here...

The Wal-Mart nearest to my home keeps most of their Blu-Ray titles locked out of reach. I have seen one exception: the 30th anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I suppose they have it out on the floor (only one copy) because it doesn't obviously look like a Blu-Ray release.

Sam's Club goes through a more complicated process. You have to take the empty case up front to purchase. Then a stock clerk has to retrieve the disc from a locked box with lots of other copies of the movies all in CD style jewel cases.

Yea. Same here in Bigfoot country. Check this out. Not only locked behind glass with the Games, but hidden on the bottom shelf pushed way in the back 3 inches from the floor.

I had to put my nose in the semi-dryed peice of gum and used bandade on the floor to even see them!

True, but what about the Human proof sticky tape all over the cases?
