Great news, and the BDs will be priced the same as the DVDs?! Can't wait to see Brazil on Blu-ray.

Criterion, unlike Fox, actually warrants a $39.95 MSRP.

Hopefully Criterion will release DAYS OF HEAVEN on Blu ray sometime in the future, I've been holding off buying the Standard version.

Thank you, Criterion!

Half of the announced titles are must buys for me, although I hope they'll be done justice (e.g., no reframed 2x1 transfers on Blu-ray, Vittorio, already!) and produced to the highest standards available to the format, not to Criterion's own suspicious criteria of excellence (widescreen support took ages to show up, and windowboxing is the current craze, not to mention contrast boosting).

Still, they are unmatched when it comes to extras and style, and it's not like they don't know what they're doing transfer-wise. They just sometimes know wrong...

In any case, the big guy for quality cinema has entered the building. Blu-ray is now officially a mature format.

Do they still have the rights to Hard Boiled and The Killer? Must buy those if they ever come out. Trainspotting too? Didn't they have a release of Pulp Fiction?

Robocop would be cool (I've got it on Criterion dvd) but I don't believe they have the rights to it anymore, Dead Ringers also would be sweet.

I spotted Robocop on Blu yesterday, but I don't think it was a Criterion Blu.

Gimme Buñuel, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Fellini, Kurosawa, Godard!

It was about time! Blu-ray had to be more than silly pop-corn flicks!

I have been feeling this way for along time. I don't consider myself to be a film snob, I can enjoy stuff like Iron Man with the best of them. But, that being said every time someone here goes on and on about the PQ quality of some horrible mindless Hollywood crapfest, there is a part of me that painfully wants to point out that polishing a turd only gets you so far.
