Default MLB 2008 Season Discussion

I didn't see a thread dedicated to this MLB regular season. Probably because it's still a bit early to get too serious about baseball, but let's get things rolling by saying who your team is, how they are doing, and your thoughts on thier progress thus far. Later this Fall watch for a "MLB Playoff 2008 Discussion".

For my part, I'm deep in the heart of Red Sox country. They're doing okay, starting pitching is pretty good but the bullpen is currently messing up some games. In our division, Tampa Bay is actually 1 game ahead of the Sox with the Yanks in last, back 4.5 games. TB in first? Craaaazy! I don't expect them to be able to hold onto that top spot, but who knows! They have a better manager, some better players and a little more energy than usual.

Back in March I picked the Rays to win the World Series. So far, it looks like a pretty good bet.

Sadly I think my beloved Braves chance for the playoffs ended when Smoltz's arm finally wore out. At this point I'm just hoping Chipper hits near .400 to keep the season interesting.

Wow the Yankees are swept by the mets, cant wait to hear the dog hammer mike on wfan today for that one!

I know to never count them out but this is without question the worst yankee team in the last 5 years easy, maybe even a decade.

It's a shame that Smoltz's career ended on a blown save. Chipper is hitting .418 as of today. I don't think he will end up doing it mainly for the intense media pressure that will happen as the season wears on. If he is going to do it he needs to get a minor injury that happens to knock him out for 20-30 games.

Felt like quoting this from page 1 - very nice prediction! It's neck and neck right now in the AL East, Sox lost a heartbreaker last night in the 9th. Rubber game tonight.

Young Jon Lester, starter for the BoSox, just threw a no hitter against KC!

I fell into the superstition in baseball and was afraid to start typing this until he got his last out in the 9th, hah.

Sox are deadly yet again. Not a fan but as a baseball fan, nice to see the no hitter.

Dice-K got his eighth win for the BoSox today, now he is 8 and 0! Nice start! Of course the two grand slams (JD Drew and Mike Lowell) didn't hurt, either. Heh.

The Red Sox clinched a spot in the playoffs last night, so the champs will have a chance to defend their title. The Rays were the better team in the AL East this year and should easily win the division (3 games ahead with 4 left to play). The Sox will face off against The Angels in the playoffs, and the Angels are damn good this year. Good luck to all you fans with a team in the playoffs!
