Thats exactly how its looks when I put a Blu in my PS3 and the same DVD in my DVDplayer and switch back and forth inputs. Man, I love Blu-ray!

You don't use your BD player for DVD playback?

maybe he just uses it for comparison purposes..... I have a DVD player that is connected directly to the t.v. so no surround sound etc.... it's less buttons etc. for the wife and nanny to learn (I've tried to show them....it's a lost cause)

I was just asking because I'm curious of how many people use separate decks for DVD and BD playback nowadays...

There are still many people who prefer a good quality DVD player's playback ability (non upconverting) over the best up-converted player out there..... the Conversion adds artificial detail that many people don't want.

I just ordered an Oppo '983 to see if its 1080p upscaling over HDMI beats the performance I'm getting from my Panny Blu-ray deck when it upconverts standard DVD...

I don't understand why someone would output a player at 480p (as you say, some don't want to upconvert these images) when most displays today are 1080i/p HD sets; I mean, most of these screens upscale the image anyway if they're fixed panel designs like my Sony SXRD...

You're right, if you have an HDTV it will upconvert the 480 signal to match it's native resolution (the actual TV resolution) so I also prefer to use a good upconverting DVD to do the job instead of the TV.
